how they asked
Every year around Christmas, Scott and his family visit Santa at Macy’s in Herald Square and have dinner in the city. I was excited when I found out that this year, everyone wanted me to come. I didn’t think anything of it because I had been close to his family the entire five years we had been dating and was used to doing things wit them. December 17th was our five year anniversary and although it was going to be a group affair, I was happy to spend the day out and about in New York City. When we woke up, Scott made sure that I was dressed up and ready to go. I know that every year his family takes a photo with Santa and gets fairly dressed up, so I didn’t find it odd that he wanted me to do the same. We took the train to the city and walked around Macy’s for a while before heading to Santa land.
After waiting in line, it was our turn to take pictures with Santa. I stayed out of the family photo, not knowing what was about to happen, but stepped in for photos with just Scott and I. After Santa asked me what I wanted for Christmas, he called on his elf to hand me a box with a bow on it. Being in complete oblivion, I thought I had won something and opened the box with a confused look on my face. Once I opened the box and saw the ornament that read “Will You Marry Me” I began to cry. Before I could see Scott on one knee, my family appeared from the corner, flashing cameras and throwing fake snow. I could not believe what had just happened. Shocked, excited and crying, I wrapped my arms around Scott and of course told him Yes. Five years and for the rest of our lives.
