How We Met

Our relationship has never been conventional. We are always told that if something weird is going to happen, then it’s going to happen to us. Logan left for the Air Force a week after we started dating, but despite the distance, the first 8 weeks of only communicating through letters, and seeing each other less than a quarter of the year, we’ve managed to make it work. I met Logan when I was 20. My sister was having a group of people over, and I told her I’d mind my own business and hang out with my friend in my room. Well, that only lasted a little while, because when I went to our kitchen to see who all came over, there he was. At the time I was in a relationship with someone else, but something about Logan drew me to him. He introduced himself, and we ended up talking until 4a.m. After we went our separate ways, we didn’t talk for a few months.

The relationship I was in ended, and my sister and girl friends decided I needed a night out, so they took me to a a small town bonfire. They told me that Logan would be there, but when we got there we found out he couldn’t make it. I was probably overly disappointed for only meeting the man once. A couple weeks later, we headed back to his small town, and I got to see him. Just like before, we ended up talking until morning. He told me he was pretty sure he like me already even though it sounded crazy, but what I didn’t tell him was that, I already knew he was the one.

how they asked

In May Logan mentioned that my local minor league baseball team was having a competition for an All-Star proposal. We joked about entering, but we decided against it (at least I thought we did). Logan entered us in the competition with the help of my sisters, and he won! He got to come home over the summer, and it just so happened to be the week of the 4th of July, which is my favorite holiday. My family has a tradition where we go see the Chiefs, our minor league team, play every year on the 4th. We headed to the game and got chosen to play an on field game called battle of the sexes. I’m a shy girl, so this was really outside my comfort zone, but I did it because he really wanted to. When it got to be Logan’s turn the MC said “first I think Logan has something he’d like to ask.” Next thing I know Logan is down on one knee asking me to marry him.

We got off the field, and I found out that not only was my family there to celebrate but his was too.

It was perfect, so I assumed the proposal was over. Logan had another plan though. He had recruited my sisters to set up the other part of the proposal before we got back from the game. When my sisters said they had to leave early. I was oblivious. I just assumed they had things to do. On the way home I was gushing over my ring and being engaged, so I didn’t notice what was going on. When we pulled onto my street there were little lights lining my driveway, a huge banner hanging on my garage, and a table that had flowers and pictures all over it. We got out of the car and I realized the banner said “marry me” and the song playing in the background was was Can’t Help Falling in Love, which is our song.

Logan got down on one knee again and told me that he wanted part of this day to just be for us, and that he wanted to make it perfect for me. He told me he loved me, and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me (This time I could hear it, because there was no crowd roaring). I have never felt more loved in my life.

I knew Logan was more of a romantic than I am, but I never imagined I’d be so lucky as to get a proposal like this.
