How We Met
Kyle and I met in January 2014 through a online dating app. We both find that a little embarrassing, but if we are being honest this is what brought us together. We decided to finally meet after weeks of talking back and forth. We started dating in July of 2014 just after I started a 3 year DPT program. We lived 2 hours away from each other, so our relationship was very much long distance. The time spent away from each other felt longer than the times spent together. In our last year of dating, Kyle and I decide to move into a house with each other in Harrah, Oklahoma. Our situation was not typical because we didn’t have time to plan a wedding and settle down in that fashion. PT school was the biggest limitation to that scenario and was pretty my life until after graduation. This was a big move for us since it was at the end of my graduation from PT school and at the beginning of the summer studying schedule for my boards exam.
how they asked
Before the big day: After I graduated PT school in May of 2017, I was scheduled to take a board exam in July to be licensed to practice physical therapy. Since graduation, I had studied every day for several hours to prepare. Kyle knew how important this exam was for me, so he understood that my time was mostly spent in a book or on my laptop looking over slides. This time period was stressful and exhausting to say the least. My family wanted to celebrate graduations and board exams in the family by taking us on a family trip(my sister had graduated and taken her practicing exam as well). My parents kindly paid for “our last family vacation” to Ireland and scheduled it after our tests. On the big day: While on this trip, we scheduled a bus tour to the Cliffs of Moher. We finally arrived to the cliffs and started to walk around taking in the beautiful scenery. We made our way to the other side of the cliff. My boyfriend, Kyle, and my mom were out on a ledge of the cliff and announced how beautiful this angle was for picture taking. I stepped out onto the ledge to get a better view and stood next to Kyle. I was taken away by the natural beauty of this cliff that I didn’t even notice that my entire family started to walk away from the two of us to set up for taking pictures of what was about to happen. Kyle grabbed my hand and started saying “Emily, we’ve been dating for 3 years now…and I would like to take this relationship to the next level.” I turned to face him immediately anticipating what he was about to do, yet at the same time not believing my eyes as he kneeled down to one knee. Kyle then asked me the one question I’ve been waiting for, and of course I said yes! The proposal had been planned since January of this year, and my family helped this dream happen. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to be asked, nor could I have imagined a more beautiful location. The only thing was that I wish I had more intuition to wear something cute!
