Emily and Justin

Engagement Proposal Ideas in His parent's basement

How We Met

We first met in elementary school. We never really talked much except the exchange “Justin”… “Emily” with a hint of fun attitude behind it. Fast forward to my first year in high school where Justin and I both attend in our small town. One day, I went to the local 7/11. As I’m browsing the aisles I heard the door ding as people walked in. I looked up and it was Justin and his friends. We did our usual greeting of saying each other’s names, but I decided to further the conversation. Fast forward to the next day and we exchanged phone numbers. It was non stop talking for a month and on January 20, 2012 Justin asked me to be his girlfriend. That was 8 years ago and the rest is history.

How They Asked

At the time, we were both living with our parents. We wanted to plan a party to throw at Justin’s parent’s house with all our friends, as some of them live out of town and we didn’t see each other for a while. What I didn’t know was Justin was planning this grand proposal with all our friends and family to be in attendance, and I just thought it was an ordinary party. I helped invite people to it, he invited a bunch of people, he said his parents were inviting some of the family to play cards upstairs, and I didn’t think anything of it because that’s what his family does. It was just another one of their parties that they were going to throw.

The night of the party rolled around and leave it to my mom to make me late to my own engagement. We arrive half an hour late but we got there none the less. I make my way around the room and say hi to everyone. I was in the middle of a conversation with my one friend, and I hear Justin say “Em, why do you think everyone’s here?” and I responded (kind of rudely) “I don’t know”. Next thing I know he reaches for his pocket and pulls out a black box, gets down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I have never been in such a state of shock the only words that came out of my mouth were “STOP. WHAT THE F**K!!!!”. Of course, I said yes and started to cry afterward. I am so thankful with how everything happened and I’m glad my sister filmed it so I can watch it on repeat. I got my prince charming and my happily ever after and I cannot wait to marry the love of my life.
