How We Met
Justin and I met on an online dating app. To this day we both agree it’s not something we would have normally done, but instead we took a leap of faith and gave it a try.
Tinder to be exact. Yeah you read that right, LOL! We became a “match” and a few days later Justin messaged me. Right after becoming a match I remember being with my friend and just staring at his account. I kept saying, “Isn’t this guy just the cutest!?” I was so excited when he messaged me! He said something along the lines of “Wow, we have a lot in common!” The funny part is, I didn’t have anything written in my personal bio because I still wasn’t sure about the online dating thing. He claims it was a “joke” and just a way to start a conversation ;) He says a picture of me shooting my compound bow caught his eye.
We messaged each other on this app for a few days, asking questions and getting to the point. I knew what I was looking for and I wasn’t afraid to ask. Questions like “Are you a Christian?” and “Are your parents still married?” Important things to me, as well as him too!
After a few days we finally exchanged numbers. Still texting and being all giddy. I started to actually feel like I knew him and turns out we did have a lot in common after all. Hunting and snowboarding to name a few. A week went by and we finally set up our first date. My family and friends were a little skeptical about me going on a date with a complete stranger. I told him their concerns and he invited them to come along! But let’s be honest, I wasn’t going to allow that to happen. He wanted to buy me dinner at a local restaurant.
Notice how I said local. Tinder doesn’t say where you live, it just goes by mile radius. Let’s just say it’s a small world. Justin and I grew up about 45 minutes a part and he lives about 25 minutes from my work. As a matter of fact we knew some of the same people.
Anyways, I pulled into the parking lot at the restaurant and started walking to the door. There was a blonde handsome guy at the entrance, standing there in his square toes and Texas A&M polo, watching me walk in. Sure enough it was him, greeting me with a hug. First impression? Gentleman. Especially after opening the door for me and saying grace before dinner.
His kind heart and sense of humor was so attractive. I remember almost falling off my barstool and him saying “I seem to have that affect on women.” Lol. We had no problem talking in person and there was definitely a spark between us.
After dinner he talked me into going back to his family farm for a paddle boat ride under the stars. We continued to talk and get to know each other, and I had a good feeling it was going somewhere.
We wanted to take it “slow” maybe getting together once a week. You all know that didn’t last long. Our first date turned into many more and the rest was history! Spending time together felt so right.
how they asked
It was a Friday night in my favorite month, October. I was finishing up my second degree and told myself I had to stay home to write a paper because I was heading to Indianapolis the next day.
Justin and I had been dating for a couple of years now. We talked about marriage many times and we both knew it was going to happen eventually. We were so happy and in love.
That Friday night of “homework” turned into one of the best nights of my life. Justin begged me to come over so he could take me to dinner before I left for the weekend. I couldn’t resist, homework could obviously wait.
I pulled into his long driveway, having this crazy feeling something good was about to happen. Justin was outside waiting for me. I got out of my car and gave him the biggest hug and kiss just because I had missed him.
As I was getting things out of my car and admiring the beautiful Fall day, Justin was down on one knee asking me to marry him. Of course I said YES without any hesitation! I had never been so sure of something in my life.
The hardworking farmer and knowledgeable agronomist that he is, used a plant growth regulator and wrote ‘I Love You’ in the grass. It took almost a week to grow! His proposal is exactly how I pictured it to be, just the two of us on the farm surrounded by God’s country.
I’ve always dreamed of getting married in my favorite month, so we got our engagement pictures taken pretty quickly so that they would match our Fall wedding theme for the following October. We knew the farm was the perfect place for pictures! We’ve been married for about 6 months now and together we call this place home. We thank God every day for allowing our paths to cross!
Rebecca at ENV Photography is so talented!! We will cherish both our engagement and wedding pictures for years to come!
