How We Met
Isaac and I met in December 2014 through mutual friends in the choral locker room of Concordia College during rehearsals for the famous Concordia College Christmas concert. A group of us decided to walk to the nearby Taco Bell for a late night snack. Isaac and I got to talking, we kept texting through the night, and we’ve been inseparable ever since.
How They Asked
I love surprises and Isaac pulled off the ultimate surprise. On September 29, 2018 we ventured out on West Battle Lake for one last fishing trip. It was a very cold morning so we wore our matching snow pants and our tumblers of hot coffee. I don’t fish too much so I just enjoyed a brisk boat ride. As we pulled up to one of our usual spots, I spotted my parents and brother in their boat. I assumed we had just coincidently met them on the water. We pulled up along side their boat to chat and Isaac asked me to put our anchor down. I quickly did so and when I turned around Isaac was down on one knee, my dad was taking a video, my mom was taking photos and my brother had my sister on Facetime (as she was away at college.) Isaac kept it simple and sweet as he said, “Hey Em, will you marry me?” I was so happy and surprised! I guess I didn’t answer right away so Isaac had to ask again to which I said, “Yes, of course!” It wasn’t the classic proposal where I had my nails done or was wearing the perfect outfit. In fact, I had chipped black nails, snow pants, a bright red puffy coat, no makeup, and a big snow hat. But it was incredibly special to me to have my family involved and that we were in one of our favorite places—on the lake! I couldn’t have asked for anything better :)
