How We Met
We met when we were just 16 in high school through a mutual friend. We instantly hit it off and became great friends. We bonded over both loving music and movies. We had a very special and unique relationship and always had a little “spark”. We always joked about how we were each others’ “the one” and that one day we would get married.
Life happened and five years went by. He had moved around the country a few times and we both were busy in this new season of life. We didn’t stay in contact much but then one day, five years after high school, we ran into each other in our hometown and picked up right where we left off. It was like no time had passed.
Fast forward two years and we are engaged! It looks like our 16-year-old selves were right. We knew it then and still know it now… we were each others’ “the one”.
How They Asked
We decided to go on a trip to Switzerland to celebrate our 2 year anniversary together. We had planned a hotel stay at a beautiful mountainside resort on our actual anniversary. Because we have talked about marriage before, he told me before the trip that he did not have a ring yet, he had one being made and it would not be done by our trip date. He wanted to give me a heads up to not be disappointed when he didn’t ask.
We had a beautiful trip so far and the day of our anniversary comes around. We get to our hotel and we are drinking wine, eating good food looking at the Swiss Alps. He then asks if we should have our waiter take a photo of us with the mountains in the back. I say yes and we get up to take our pictures. He goes over to put his jacket down and while I’m staring at the mountains behind me, I turn back around and there he is, down on one knee with the biggest smile on his face. I was so surprised! He had the ring all along and I’m so glad it played out the way it did.
