How We Met
We both worked at Cave of the Mounds as educators. We got to teach school kids of all ages about rocks, fossils, caves and more! At first, we were just friends, but then we had to keep our relationship a secret from our co-workers for a time.
How They Asked
I moved out to be with my now-husband for the final 6 months of his year-long internship in Las Vegas, far away from our home in Wisconsin. Anyway, I had brought with me my great grandma’s wedding ring, as it was my “fancy” ring. We decided to go to a New Years’ party at a Wildlife Preserve in the city, where you can see downtown vegas. It was a fun party, with food, great music and of course a great view. I had asked my boyfriend if he has seen my ring, as I wanted to wear it to the New Year’s party. He claimed he “did not know where it went, but he was sure it would show up at some point.” Anyway, at midnight all the casinos let off fireworks from the rooftops and as I was watching he got down on one knee and said he “didn’t want to go into the new year as just by boyfriend, and would I marry him?” It was not necessarily romantic, but it was perfect for us and something I will never forget!
