How We Met
February 18, 2012. We were celebrating my roommate Jill’s birthday. She wanted to go to Temecula to wine taste. Since we lived in an apartment at the time we had the limo pick us up form her boyfriend’s house. There was a group of about 12 of us going that day. Just so happened that her boyfriend’s new roommate came along. Little did I know that I was going to fall in love with the goofy guy who was a wine expert.
After we were done wine tasting we all went back to the boys house. I ended up staying the night there and in the morning Ian offered to get us breakfast burritos. I had to rush to work that morning so I agreed to the burrito and then just left. Definitely didn’t think that one through lol and until this day, Ian still swears I owe him a breakfast burrito.
After that the rest was history and we have been talking ever since.
how they asked
I am a HUGE San Francisco Giants fan and every year we plan a trip to go and watch them play for my birthday. This year was no different which is why I didn’t think anything of it.
The morning of the game we planned on going to Baker Beach and walk around to kill time before what I thought was going to be a nice sit down lunch.
We got to the beach and at first it was hard to find parking so we circled the parking lot for a while. We finally parked and started walking to the stair path. I love any photo with the Golden Gate bridge in it so per usual I was snapping pictures on my phone non-stop.
Once we started walking down to the beach my feet sank immediately into the sand and I didn’t want to get my new shoes dirty so I stopped to take them off. Ian as always was very patient with me because I definitely get a little irritable when I am not comfortable. We started our walk down the beach towards the big cliff like rocks that Baker Beach is known for its scenery. Again, I started to get winded because that walk did not seem as long as it was lol When we stopped I turned around a noticed a guy taking pictures of the water and remember thinking to myself that was weird, but I didn’t skip a beat.
Ian started talking about how great a life we have built together and how we are very fortunate enough to be able to do the things that we do. And how much he loves me and loves how we are together. Ian reminded me about all the adventures we have already taken and how excited he is for all the adventures we will go on. Again, did not think anything about it because he is always sweet like that and he said the same thing to me the weekend before when we went to a friend’s wedding lol
All of a sudden Ian says okay let’s park here. He puts his backpack down and then says to me “Well, you might want to take your hat off” and with a dumbfounded look on my face I say huh?
Ian gets down on one knee and says, “Emagin Padua Virrey, will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?”
And I look down and see the ring of my dreams shining at me in this tiny grey box. The most intelligent thing I could up with was “Shut up! Are you serious?”. After the shock wore off I screamed “Of course! I will marry you!”
And like the big goofball I love, Ian says to me, “Okay you have to help me I don’t know what finger it goes on”
And remember that guy taking pictures that I thought was weird? Well his name is Alex Rubin and he was our amazing photographer that Ian hired for the occasion.
Not only did he hire a photographer but come to find out Ian made sure that I got my nails done for the proposal by telling me he wanted to get a pedicure a couple days before and I should come along. Extra bonus points to my future husband!
After our photo session Ian had one more trick up his sleeve. The tickets for the baseball game were behind home plate in the batter’s box. Which is this girl’s baseball dream come true! Not only did we have the best seats in the house but between the 4th and 5th inning on the billboard it read “Congratulations Ema and Ian on your Engagement! GO GIANTS!”
Ian could not have planned a more thoughtful and perfect day. I can’t wait to be Mrs. Ian Stoffel!
