How We Met
Ray and I met in Las Vegas when I was 21 years old. I was in Sin City celebrating my best friends birthday. My best friends older brother decided to crash the party and along with the older brother came Ray. We crossed paths many times throughout our twenties, but between living in different cities and later going through different individual relationships, the stars didn’t align until our late twenties when we finally gave in to the chemistry we’d been feeling your years.
how they asked
Yosemite National Park holds a special place in our hearts. We visited the park and camped several times before he proposed. We have hiked Half Dome together and have spent many early mornings on Glacier Point looking at the stars above. Because there was so much snowfall in the winter of 2017, Glacier Point Road did not open until well into the Spring-time. By then our schedules prevented us from getting away for our annual weekend getaway in Yosemite. I could sense frustration in Ray about this but at the time I didn’t understand why. In late August we finally had a few free days. Our recently married and close friends Jesse and Lauren had also wanted to camp in Yosemite for quite some time and offered to join us. This created a perfect opportunity for Ray to ask Jesse to snap a picture of the moment since Ray had been planning on simply using a tripod and camera timer.
At around sunset on August 19 the four of us including our Dobie, Pepper, headed up the winding road to Glacier Point. Ray asked Jesse to snap a family pic with Half Dome as the back-drop. As we readied ourselves to smile and take a family picture, Ray turned to me and said, “You know I want to spend the rest of my life with you and Pepper”. Jesse snapped the picture below, I cried, slightly hyperventilated, found myself stumbling to mutter a single word, and after what seemed like hours finally exuberantly said YES!
