Ella and Max

How We Met

Max and I are from the same small town in Somerset, UK. We had gone to the same Primary School but Max was a couple of years above. It wasn’t until I was working in a bar during my university summer holiday in 2013 that we met again when I was 20 and he 22. Max came into the bar a few weekends in a row with friends, and finally asked me to go on a date after I served him a good few G&T’s! 5 years on we’ve bought our first house and the rest is history.

How They Asked

Our first holiday together was to Barbados, Max treated me as I’d been away travelling for 4 months and he wanted us to spend some quality time together. 5 years later we’ve been to Barbados a further 3 times as we love it so much, so to Max, it was the perfect place to propose. The day of the proposal, we got a speedboat to The Cliff Beach Club for lunch (our favorite restaurant on the island) with Max’s sister Nadja and her boyfriend Dan. Dan had feigned being ill and said he couldn’t travel by boat as it would make him seasick, so they went ahead in a taxi. As Max and I arrived at the little cove just under the restaurant, we could see Nadja and Dan sat up in the restaurant waiting for us.

Ella and Max's Engagement in Barbados

As I start stomping up the beach to meet them, they shouted ‘stop, let’s get a photo of you both!’. I turned around and Max had a very nervous look in his eye; I wondered what on earth was wrong. I was in total shock as he got down on one knee and presented a tiny little box. The moment I saw the ring I fell totally in love – it’s absolutely beautiful! It’s better than I could have ever imagined. I was in such shock Max had to prompt me to give him my answer, which of course was YES! It was genuinely the happiest moment of my life.

Wedding Proposal Ideas in Barbados

Nadja and Dan managed to snap the whole thing and I’m beyond grateful that they were there to get the photos that we’ll cherish forever. After the proposal, we celebrated with a bottle of champagne and a delicious lunch overlooking the sea. Barbados is such a special place to us and now it’s been made even more special. Needless to say, the rest of our holiday was spent celebrating the engagement. My sister in law to be had brought a huge inflatable engagement ring, bridal magazines and decorated our room with ‘engaged’ bunting! It was the most amazing proposal, in the most amazing setting, by the most amazing man!
