Elizabeth Magnolia and Robert Mitchell

Elizabeth Magnolia and Robert Mitchell's Engagement in Belvedere Castle in Central Park in New York

How We Met

Rob and I met on a dating app, Plenty of Fish. I had used the app multiple times and kept getting stood up on dates and ghosted by many. I was heartbroken. I had been in love once before with someone else and when it didn’t work out I fell into a deep depression. I was very close to deleting my account right before Rob messaged me. My profile was very vague. I had a lot of cute pictures, as he says, and that is what drew him in from the start. He wanted to find out more about me. The first time we met we went to Starbucks. He was very opinionated and brought up difficult/deep topics such as religion and politics. Thankfully we had the same viewpoints. Our first dinner date he claimed me as his girlfriend. From that moment on I just knew he was “the one.” There was an instant connection and it was so much more than just the physical connection. He was so confident and everything has always been so natural with him. He is my best friend and soulmate.

How They Asked

Robert Mitchell Baxley proposed in the most romantic way. Our first vacation together was in New York and New Jersey. We fell in love with the busy city, amazing food, and culture. There’s just something special about New York. I was going to New York with my best friend because she had not been before and I wanted to go back.

Our flight was already delayed by 5 hours and we were extremely tired. I was missing my boyfriend and family. The next day, my friend Liz and I went to China Town and then decided to walk around Central Park. She kept mentioning that she wanted to view Belvedere Castle in Central Park. I didn’t think anything of it. I just thought she had heard of it and wanted to see it for herself.

We got lost but finally made our way to the castle. We go up to the second floor and I am in utter shock as I see the love of my life in a tuxedo and shiny black dress shoes. He looked so handsome. He had the biggest bouquet of sunflowers and roses. Rob pulled me close and told me how much he loved me and how our relationship progressed over time. I was in such a shock as he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

It was truly the best day of my life. By luck, there was a photographer there and he later emailed us the photos. We cannot thank you enough, Marcelo. I keep replaying it over constantly in my head. My youngest brother, Atlas, and sister, Emily, were there as well. I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect day. The weather was amazing and my family was there. My fiancé proposed to me in a castle in my favorite city. I feel so blessed.
