How We Met
Tyler and I grew up in the same small town and had always known of each other and I’d always had a tiny crush on him. When we were in high school, our schedules ended up putting us in every class together. We quickly became best friends. Although we both dated other people, my crush on Tyler continued to grow. He was the who reason I would want to go to school, the reason I’d actually try to fix my hair or do my makeup.
Our Junior Year Prom, although he wasn’t my date, I still had to snag a picture with him
Tyler played baseball for our school and for Spring Break our Senior year, they traveled down to Ft. Walton Beach to play in a tournament. My friends and I also decided to tag along to enjoy our last Spring Break before College. While down there, I noticed Tyler was acting different than he normally did. Our last night on the beach, he told me he wanted to talk to me about something. We were best friends and told each other everything so I didn’t find this out of the norm. To my surprise, Tyler confessed that he had had feelings for me for quite some time and he wanted me to know before college started and things were all going to change (although we had previously decided to attend the same university). After months of working out the kinks of transitioning from best friends to dating, we realized that what we had was extremely special and not short term.
how they asked
Tyler’s little brother is a Senior in high school and they too were making the same trip down to Ft. Walton to play in a baseball tournament during Spring Break. Tyler’s parents convinced us to just skip a few classes and head down to the beach for a few days to stay with them. Tyler’s mom, Joanna, had organized a family photo shoot on the beach for us one of the nights. I walked down to the beach, holding Tyler’s hand, unknowingly brushing the ring box that he had in his pocket. The photographer, Anna Calhoon, told us that she wanted a few shots of just Tyler and I. It was an extremely windy day and they kept telling me to face the ocean so my hair wouldn’t blow in my face. Against their will, I kept turning around to chat and see what pose they were doing next. I saw a man running across the beach and turned to Tyler and told him “Hey look at this guy, he could literally be my dad’s twin.” After a closer look, I realized that it was my dad, followed by mom, sister and brother. I then began to piece together why they were all there and turned to Tyler who then got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife back at the same spot where it all started for us 4 years ago.
Needless to say, our families could not have been happier!
