Elizabeth and Kevin

How We Met

Kevin and I met on move-in day of our Freshman year of college. We lived across the hall from each other and quickly became acquaintances. Sophomore year rolled around, and we decided to take a class together. SOC-101 was a huge turning point for us! We started spending more and more time together (ya know, “studying”!), and we both secretly liked each other. A lot. Kevin would ask me to go to the dining hall with him after class every day, and we’d spend hours talking about life and the future. Spending time with Kevin made me feel an excitement for everyday life like I’d never felt before.

His interest in me and my life had me crushing so hard! Fast forward to the last week of Sophomore year, our friend group decided to go bowling. I stood up from the table when it was my turn, Kevin tickled my back, and that was it! I was in love. We sat on a bench until 5:30 am the next morning talking about absolutely everything. Likes, dislikes, dreams, visions, fears, future careers, we talked about it all. Three years later, he’s still that kind, handsome, caring, intelligent man. The only difference is now he’s my “roommate” instead of my neighbor!

How They Asked

Kevin and I were heading to NYC for a few days before spending the Easter holiday with his family on Long Island. A few days before, he bought me a gift card to get my nails done. He’s an absolute dream of a partner, so this was nothing out of the ordinary.

Elizabeth's Proposal in NYC

I happily got my nails done, and off to the city we went. I’d been joking around with him for a while saying, “If there’s a ring, make sure you don’t forget to bring it for our trip!”

He’d roll his eyes and assure me now wasn’t the time, so no ring needed to be in tow for this trip. We got to the city, and he told me that he’d planned something fun for us to do. Again, nothing out of the ordinary! (Lucky girl, I know!) We ended up walking to Chelsea Pier, and he told me we were doing a fun sightseeing tour. Next thing I know, it’s just me, Kevin, the captain, and a photographer on a private charter! The captain told us we could play some music, and Kevin nonchalantly said he would put some on before we headed to sit in the cool open air on the front of the boat together.

Next thing I know, my absolute favorite song is playing (Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey – Great Gatsby was the first movie we ever watched together!). I looked at Kevin, he said, “I know I tell you every single day that I love you, you’re beautiful, you’re amazing, and I’m so happy to have you in my life. So…do you wanna like.. get married or something??” I said, YES!!!! We kissed (a lot), and enjoyed the foggy view of the city together!
