How We Met
I had been at my current job for about 2 1/2 years (one of the perks of being at the front desk is that I can see who comes and goes from our floor) when I noticed a face I’d never seen before. He had just started working at the office on the opposite end of the hall. I immediately thought he was very cute and wanted to find a way to talk to him. This seemed quite impossible because our paths never seemed to cross. I’d try to catch his eye so I could at least wave but no luck. One day, a year or so later (in 2018) the owner of the law firm located on our floor decided to throw a happy hour meet and greet with the 4 companies on our floor so we could all get to know each other. On June 28, 2018, I see Jordan walking down the hall but this time he was walking towards me. I started freaking out but played it cool. He came in with the excuse of asking if we were bringing anything to the happy hour the next day. June 29 rolls around and I couldn’t keep my eyes off of him but never noticed him looking at me so I thought he wasn’t interested. The following Monday, I went on LinkedIn and searched for him, found him, and sent him a connect request. He accepted and messaged me. I like to say that I made the first move! He gave me his phone number and on July 3rd a few of my coworkers and I decided to go out since we were going to be off July 4th. I texted Jordan asking if he wanted to join us and he did. It was such a fun night. July 5th was our first official date and we have been inseparable ever since.
How They Asked
We planned a vacation to the Bahamas back in June even before we started actual talks about getting married one day. The week before our vacation I had gone through the worst luck streak I’ve had in a long time. The Tuesday before, my wallet was stolen from my purse at work. I lost everything – license, debit/credit cards, rewards cards, memories, etc. Friday rolled around and I had a flat tire so I could not get to work. After this, I kept waiting for the next bad thing because “it comes in threes” after all. Saturday rolls around and it’s time to head out to the airport. We have a 3-hour layover in Ft. Lauderdale and we finally arrive in Nassau and couldn’t be more excited! We go to baggage claim only to realize that our bags hadn’t made it to the Bahamas along with us. This was the third thing to seal the deal on my bad luck streak. We couldn’t do anything but wait for the next flight from Ft. Lauderdale to the Bahamas to get our luggage. There was only one problem, Hurricane Dorian was about to touch the ground. We got to our hotel with nothing but the clothes on our backs. Our hotel went on lockdown Sunday – Wednesday due to the hurricane. Literally on the verge of going crazy and on top of that, no bags still.
Dorian has passed and the hotel lifted the lockdown on Thursday and we got our luggage that same day! Jordan then tells me that the restaurants were finally opening up and we could finally get all dressed up for a fancy dinner. We extended our stay a few more days and I am so excited that our vacation is about to officially begin! I hurry up and get ready for our 7pm dinner reservation and as we’re making our way through the lobby, Jordan looks at me and says “I wanted to surprise you with a sunset photoshoot on the beach before dinner babe, I hope you’ll love it”. I am so excited about this! We make our way to the beach and the photographer directs us into different poses.
She finally says “I want to get some of you looking out into the ocean”. Little did I know my life was about to change forever at this moment. As the photographer was taking pictures of me, Jordan was getting positioned and the photographer says “okay turn to your man again”. I turn around and there he is on his knee telling me how much I have changed his life for the better and asking me if I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. I couldn’t believe it because it came out of nowhere. I’m pretty sure I blacked out a bit because I don’t really remember the rest of the photoshoot. Next thing I know we’re sitting down eating dinner overlooking a beautiful beach sunset. Our engagement story is so crazy but I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.
