Elizabeth and Jeff
How We Met
On May 12, 2011, I unknowingly made a quick decision that started the journey between Jeff and I. This decision was simply accepting his Facebook friend request (then agreeing to follow him back on Instagram). I had just made the Cincinnati Ben-Gals roster and like a lot rookies, we would accept anyone who asked to be our friend on social media. Although I never met him (and figured I never would), somehow, he seemed to successfully make it through 5+ cycles of my de-friending sprees. However, he was not as lucky with my Instagram. Every time I got to his name, something in me never wanted to completely disconnect us as he was always very sweet through his comments on my posts. A few months before our official internet conversation, I decided to follow him again on Instagram after seeing adorable posts of his dog, Gibson, on Facebook. Fast forward a couple of months later, I posted a picture of me with my mom and grandmother for Mother’s Day. Since Jeff recently lost his grandmother whom he was very close to, this triggered him to message me through Instagram. Initially, I had hoped he wasn’t going to ask to meet with me since I had just gotten out of back to back relationships with not so great men and was really focusing on myself in order to make the Ben-Gals again for the 2016 season. After numerous messages that entailed long paragraphs from each person, he asked if he could come down to Cincinnati to take me out to dinner. Our first date was at Eddie Merlot’s and we talked for hours without a single pause. His incredibly kind demeanor, respectfulness, thoughtfulness, and caring words had me intrigued and wanting to continue to get to know him even more. From that moment on, I’ve been hooked and fell completely in love with him. Accepting his Facebook friend request was one of the best decisions that I have ever made.
how they asked
My fiance and I share an immense love for Christmas which is why we love Frankenmuth, Michigan since it’s known for having the largest Christmas store in the world, Bronner’s. On Saturday, July 1st, we traveled up to this Christmas Wonderland for a weekend with his family to celebrate the Fourth of July. Once we got settled into out room and ready to go out for the evening, we walked outside the lodge when he insisted we get a picture under a “Sommer Garten” sign. Usually he is very hesitant to ask strangers to take pictures of us but when he saw who looked to be a professional photographer standing close by, he asked if she could take a picture of us with his cell phone. She ended up saying she is a local photographer and was out that day taking nature shots. She then asked if we had some time to go down by the river so she could take some of us with the beautiful Frankenmuth scenery in the background. As we were taking pictures, I felt Jeff start to walk away and me start to fall since my heels were sinking into the ground. I turned over my right shoulder and saw him kneeling to one knee.
He said, “I love you. Will you marry me and be my wife?” Of course I said yes! After a kiss and hug, he tried to put the ring on my finger but with both of us shaking from excitement, we had to give it a a couple of tries. We took more pictures in front of the water and bridge with the ring on and then dinner at Prost Wine Bar. Needless to say, this was the happiest day of my life knowing that I get to marry the man of my dreams!
