How We Met
Dakota and I met our senior year in gym class. I was the new girl at school, and we became quick friends, with some flirting… We spent 5 years as friends, and then the summer of 2016 our friendship turned to much more. We’ve been together ever since.
How They Asked
About a month before the engagement, I had sent Dakota my “ideal proposal” scenario. It was: private between he and me, staying in a beautiful cabin in the woods, preferably with snow, and pictures of the engagement. I didn’t want anything lavish or over-the-top. Just thoughtful and romantic. He literally made that dream happen. Dakota had planned a mini-vacation to the Poconos for the two of us. We recently bought a house and a puppy, and we both needed a little getaway because it was an exciting (but stressful) time! He had found and booked a private cabin and told me it was my “late Valentine’s Day gift”, so I thought nothing of it. We couldn’t check into our cabin until 2:00 pm, so he told me that there were some waterfalls nearby that were really beautiful that we could explore beforehand. When we got there he said he wanted to find a good fishing spot near the waterfalls. He had his GoPro along, which he also set up, but he always does that when he fishes, so again I thought nothing of it.
He threw a few casts in, and I was enjoying the scenery. Eventually, my toes started to get cold (it was about 15 degrees that day), so I asked if we could leave soon. Not even 5 minutes later he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. It was the most perfect moment. He went above and beyond to make it special for me…the proposal was intimate and private, we stayed in the most unique and peaceful cabin in the middle of the woods, and it snowed while we were there. He captured the entire proposal on his GoPro, and he was my personal photographer. We had a mini-photoshoot until he felt like we had enough pictures that I would love. That night he had made reservations at an amazing restaurant where they had champagne waiting for us. Every detail was perfect.
He also bought the ring that I fell in love with when we were browsing for engagement rings a few weeks prior to our trip. We were at an antique jewelry store in our town, and we had stopped in to see their selection. I tried almost all of their rings on, and I had found one that I absolutely loved. I think I talked about it for the rest of the day. About a week after, he had texted me and said that he stopped back in to ask about the ring, but it had sold. I was disappointed, to say the least. Little did I know, the ring had been sold to him two days after we stopped in.
