Eliza and Levi
How We Met
I have known Levi since I was nine years old. We met the year that both of our families moved out to Jackson Hole, at summer camp. But it wasn’t until years later that I fell for him. I can remember the moment it happened, like it was yesterday. It was the summer before my Junior year of high school, I was 16 and naive and he was 18 and a total hunk. We spent two absolutely perfect summers together, every single day off finding new adventures, it was picture perfect– until the day he had to go back to college and I was moving back to the East Coast. And just like that, it was all over, the ultimate heartbreak sob story that my parents had warned me of, should I be dumb enough to fall in love with a cowboy.
Almost a decade later, we both found ourselves newly single and suddenly like a flash of lightning we were back in each other’s every day life. We spoke on the phone for endless hours, me in New York City and him across the country still in Wyoming. I let this carry on for a few weeks until the opportunity arose for me to go out and visit him again and I immediately jumped for it. March 3rd, 2016 is the day my life was forever changed. I knew when I stepped off the plane in Jackson, that this time we weren’t going to have to say goodbye like we had years ago.
how they asked
Fast forward to October, 2016. He invited me up to his family’s cabin in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, a place that he had never taken a girl before in his entire life. We spent a few days exploring and catching up, after one of the busiest couple of months I had ever had in my career. There was no doubt in my mind that Levi and I were going to end up together, but to be totally honest him asking me to marry him was the last thing I expected to happen during this trip. The poor guy was faced with surprising a wedding planner – to me that is quite a daunting task to take on, so I have to give him some serious credit.
It was three days into our vacation, when we took a drive with his parents and our dogs up to a lighthouse that overlooks Lake Superior. We all headed out onto the beach from the boardwalk, naturally his parents faded into the background while we continued down the beach. We eventually stopped to take in the view when Levi pulled me in close and said “Eliza, I want to spend the rest of my life with you”. My immediate response to that was, “Well yeah honey, we’ve been over this I do too..” -me completely oblivious to what was about to happen. He smirked and pulled out a ring from his jacket pocket, and said, “Well, will you????” and slid the ring on my finger, knowing the whole time the answer was of course, yes — a million times over.
