How We Met
Landon and I actually met on Tinder (dead serious)! I had just gotten out of a 2-year relationship when my best friend decided to create me a Tinder profile. I was very hesitant at first, but figured it was worth a shot. Landon and I ‘matched’ in March of 2015 and struck up some conversations throughout the following week or so. He asked me on our first date to drinks at a fun 90s themed bar in downtown Nashville, and after in depth google searches and background checks, I decided, what the heck…let’s go for it! Boy, I’m glad I did! After about a 6 hour date of laughing, conversation, and an intense game of battleship, we decided we should probably call it a night and head back to our homes.
Funny hiccup in our dating story – I ended up meeting another guy who had asked me on a couple of dates around the same time as Landon. After numerous dates with the other guy, I called Landon one night and broke the news that I had stronger feelings for someone else andwanted to pursue that further. He was so understanding and obviously heartbroken (even though he doesn’t like to admit it). After my date that night with the other guy, I realized I had made a HUGE mistake. Luckily, Landon and I had still been chatting throughout the week, so I asked him to dinner – my treat. He accepted, and after a really expensive dinner, numerous apologies on my part, and explanations for my ‘lapse in judgement’, he laughed and asked if I wanted to meet up with his friends at a bar downtown. We call this ‘The Great Apology”, and our love story started back up immediately after that.
They say ‘you know’ when you meet that special someone, and both of us knew after date #1 (even with the hiccup) this was something very special.
how they asked
He asked in November if I wanted to go ring shopping. This was a shock since he always mentioned that 2 years was a minimum before thinking about an engagement. Of course I said ABSOLUTELY! After months of trying to find the perfect ring, we custom created one right after my emergency appendectomy this Easter. That surgery happened to fall on the same weekend he was planning on asking my father for permission – so obviously I thought I was going to be waiting a lot longer than I did. Little did I know that he already had something amazing planned out.
On May 14th we were supposed to go on a sunrise hot air balloon ride with two of our friends – one who happens to be a wedding photographer – and who just got engaged in Italy the week before, but the company called and had to cancel due to high winds predicted for that morning. We were crushed, but made the best of it. Later that night, the company called and said we could go up the next morning, May 15th. We were ecstatic- especially Landon and our friends – I just thought it was a belated birthday present. On the morning of the 15th we met for the hot air balloon ride bright and early at 5:00 AM. As the sun was rising, we watched the balloons inflate and take off over the hills. Our pilot was amazing and let us take tons of photos inside the balloon during inflation and even took some pictures for us.
Our balloon took off around 6:30AM – I don’t think either of us can explain how gorgeous it was. About 15 minutes into the ride, Landon started telling me how much he loved me, which I just brushed off due to being overwhelmed by the amazing view from 2,000 feet in the air. After a few failed attempts to get my attention, he grabbed my shoulders and turned me toward him with a kiss. He once again told me how much he loved me (I knew then what was happening), and he said “the only regret I have in life is not meeting you sooner. Would you do me the great honor of marrying me”. Then he got down on one knee and opened the box to present the most amazing ring (yes, I was still surprised even though we designed it together). There were tears, lots of pictures, and excited cheers over the intercoms from the other balloons.
Once we landed, we had a mini photo shoot followed by a champagne toast with the crew. We then enjoyed a wonderful brunch and FaceTime/called our families and friends to tell them the news. I could not be more excited to spend the rest of my life with such an amazingly wonderful man who cares for me, loves me unconditionally, and makes me happiest girl in the world.
