How We Met
We first met at church. (Marcus thought I was loud and obnoxious. Needless to say, he didn’t like me. Lol) Then a few years later we reconnected at the seminary. On March 27, 2019, I saw him one day across campus and felt compelled to offer him a ride to a church service happening that night. I told him to text me but we didn’t have each other’s numbers. But he got my digits and accepted – 5 min before I was about to leave!
The ride there and back felt like a date with all of the conversation and vibes. I found out he was on the Daniel Fast but loved sweets. When we got back, I asked him to wait up for 30-min. I whipped him up a sugar-free “crumble” dessert and he’s been calling me every day since. He officially asked me to be his girlfriend on 5/8/19.
How They Asked
For our 1 year anniversary, Marcus suggested that we write a rap and do a #DontRushChallenge to share with the people. It sounded fun to me! He also told me to get really dressed up like we were “going out” and he would have dinner at his place. A family friend of our catered to make things really feel special.
Little did I know, this was all part of his revised proposal plan due to COVID-19. When I showed up, Marcus had his place decorated BEAUTIFULLY! (I thought surely he used Pinterest but he didn’t!)
Then after our appetizers, he paused to grab a surprise…. it was both of our families and closest friends on ZOOM. I lost it! Cried for what felt like forever. Then he said, “let’s do our rap for the people.” And so, we did. But when we got to the last verse, Marcus said, “wait, I’m not done.” Right then he asked me to marry him!!! I was so confused and overwhelmed, but of course, I said yes!
