How You Can Use Your Wardrobe to Drop Hints About Your Dream Ring
Post written by Leah Kaminsky Levy
You’ve tried printing out ring photos and “forgetting” them on the printer. You’ve tried pointing out rings you like during trips to the mall, and you’ve made well sure all of your shared family and friends know what you’re looking for, just in case he asks. And yet, you’ve still got a nagging feeling that when he pops the question, the ring he presents isn’t going to make your heart sing.
Never fear. With the goddesses of fashion on your side, there are plenty of crafty ways to let him know what you’re looking for.
1. Communicate With Colors
So much of our personality and taste is communicated through the colors we choose to wear. A person ensconced in black clothing conveys a much different feel than someone who opts for bright, pastel colors, or only shades of pink. We tend to wear red when we’re feeling passionate and blue when we need an extra day of calm, without even realizing we’re doing so.
If you are a fiancé-to-be with a strong preference for a ring of a certain color, try wearing that color as much as you can, making sure to comment about your preference. Whether you opt for a month of blue shirts, or you simply add a splash of the color here and there with rings, necklaces, and scarves, the hope here is that your allegiance to the color will subconsciously influence his perceptions.

2. Talk With Style
Is your wardrobe sleek, classy, and sophisticated, or would you call it bold and risky? The kinds of style choices you make again say a lot about the kind of ring that would be right for you. Or, dress in vintage clothing when you’re looking for a vintage ring. Just keep your style choices consistent with the kind of ring you’d like so he gains a clear sense of your tastes.
3. Demonstrate With Jewelry
While you may enjoy experimenting with different kinds of accessories, when you’re trying to drop hints about the kind of ring you’d like, stick to those that give your fiancé-to-be a very clear picture of the kinds of styles and colors you like. To do so, it’s worth looking at a good ring guide so that you’ve got a clear sense of the different kinds of cuts and colors available. Looking for a ring with sharp corners? Opt for geometric necklaces.

4. Let Pinterest Do the Talking
Do you often use Pinterest to collect clothing, shoes, and accessories you’re interested in? If you haven’t started one already, it’s definitely time to start a ring board for collecting your favorite shots. If this seems too obvious, try creating boards that fit with your styles, as determined above, and slipping in a few ring shots here and there. Then send the board to your partner for, let’s say, “holiday gifts,” and see if he gets the hint.
5. Other Strategies
Of course, many partners still won’t get it. Consider giving them this guide as well as the link to the how they asked ring finder, or you know…just having a conversation about it. You never know until you try!
