Donna and Andrew

Donna and Andrew's Engagement in Our first home

How We Met

Andrew and I met in 9th grade of high school. We sat at the same table in Earth Science. I remember the very first day and seeing him and thinking, “oh my god, who is that boy with those beautiful blue eyes.” I had the biggest crush on him. Right after school that day I went to cheerleading practice and told everyone about him, we even had a code name for him, “blue eyes” (high schoolers *rolling eyes*). During cheerleading practice one of the girls told me that he also played football, I was instantly more attracted to him. I thought, cheerleader and football player, how perfect right? A couple days later in class I just decided to go for it and write my number in his planner. After that we would text every night and then talk all day at school. About a week or two later we both attended a girls soccer game after our practices were over. We were sitting on the bleachers with our group of friends and they kept yelling “you guys should date!” we moved to the bottom of the bleachers so we could talk. I remember thinking to myself “YES! this is the moment. He’s gonna ask me to be his girlfriend!”

The game ended and I didn’t get asked. I was a little bummed out but I thought, well we’ve only known each other for about 2 weeks so maybe he’s just waiting. Later that night I got a text message saying “I know I should’ve asked you in person but I was too nervous. Will you be my girlfriend?” Of course I said yes! Fast forward 3 years together and now seniors in high school. We were a little sad about high school ending because that meant going to different colleges. I was leaving Maryland to attend The University of Kentucky and Andrew was going to Towson University. During our senior year it was one of the best years of our relationship, we grew and learned so much about one another. We were voted cutest couple and won Prom King and Queen! During the summer of going into college we spent every single day together. We were attached at the hip. When it got closer to leave for college I decided that I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t stand to be away from Andrew or my family. The thought of being that far away from him made my stomach hurt. He was my best friend in the whole world, how could I move that far away? After some thinking I decided to attend a local community college instead and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Nine and a half years later, we bought our first home together and are now engaged! He is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

How They Asked

Wow! What I thought was going to be a normal Friday ended up being the best day of my life. I woke up and started to get ready for work, I went to start my car and to my surprise, it didn’t start! I thought great, well at least it’s Friday I guess. I face timed my dad and he said that my battery was probably dead. Andrew had already left for work and we didn’t own jumper cables. (New homeowners, we’re still learning. We own them now, don’t worry) I called my mom and luckily she came to pick me up for work. I knew getting home wouldn’t be an issue because my best friend, Kirsten could just take me home. (Perks of working with your best friend) The day flew by and Kirsten and I had plans to go back to our house to get ready for a work event that night. Kirsten and I attended the escape room (our team won, by the way) and had a blast. I thought she would be coming back to stay the night and we would have our typical wine nights!

So on the way home from the escape room we stopped and picked up a bottle of wine. She was super talkative on the way home but if you know her you wouldn’t think this was abnormal. We get back home and I open the door and the whole living room was transformed! I was so shocked. I see rose petals, candles, and pictures of us everywhere. It literally looked like something out of a fairy tale. I see Andrew standing there, looking so incredibly handsome. I follow the roses over to him and bawled my eyes out while walking to him. He takes my hands and says “I’ve been waiting to do this for the longest time. I love you so much and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.

Will you marry me?” I don’t know if I actually said yes, or just nodded my head while hysterically crying. It was the most beautiful moment in my whole life. He put so much thought into this proposal and made it so romantic and it perfectly matched us. I loved having it be in our first home! This proposal has been 9 and a half years in the making and it was better than anything I have ever imagined! I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with this amazing man! And thank you to my best friend for getting these amazing photos and being in on this!
