How We Met

I was in the sixth grade and 11 year old me was just as awkward, if not more, as everyone else. Mark, however, was not awkward in my eyes. He was in the seventh grade, an older boy, and was definitely the “ladies man” in middle school and of coarse I had the biggest crush on him. Yes, we were friends, but no, WE never happened. Years have passed, Mark and I still friends, it is my junior year in high school, and no I do not still have a crush on him. I am now in my braces phase of high school and Mark is still the “cool” guy he has always been. One day he decided to send me a message through Facebook and not thinking anything of it, I have what I think is just a friendly conversation I would have with any of my other guy friends. Little did I know, I have caught Mark’s eye. Poor Mark just kept trying and trying to flirt with me, but I just was not getting the hints. Can anyone blame me though? It has been five years, he didn’t like me then, why would he like me now?

We’ve now been on a few dates and are on our way to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. We hop on the ski lift and have made it to the peak of the ride. With the best view of the rodeo at our feet, Mark thinks it’s the perfect time to ask me to be his girlfriend. Ok, I guess it is now time for me to admit that Mark does, in fact, like me. Mark is now a police officer for the Houston Police Department and I am a senior at the University of Houston studying to be an Art Educator. We have been inseparable for five years now and forever to go!

how they asked

I was overseas for my first time ever, studying abroad in Paris with the University of Houston College of the Arts. Our tour guide said that he had a surprise for us and I definitely thought he had gotten us all tickets to ride up the Eiffel Tower, but as we were following him we seemed to be walking past the tower. Ok I thought, it’s night time so maybe the surprise is getting the perfect view of the Eiffel Tower as the lights twinkle for a only few minutes every hour. So our group comes to a halt in front of the tower and we wait. My tour guide wonders off to who knows where and we all start mingling as we wait for the lights. Just as I look over my shoulder I see Mark right in front of me. “What are you doing here?!” I kept asking in disbelief as he pulled out a box from his blazer and got down on one knee asking me to marry him.
