How We Met
We “met” in a non-traditional way through a mutual friend on Twitter a few years ago. He was nerdy, persistent, & I wasn’t interested at all (lol). Our conversations on Twitter almost always consisted of cars, food, some tech things, and college trash talkin’. We continued this back and forth dance for a little while as life happened for both of us – new jobs, relocating, and other relationships. Throughout all of this, we always seemed to stay connected through social media. Things started to take a turn in a different direction when we both started going through some changes in our lives around the same time. It was nice to be able to talk to someone that had always been nothing but respectful, attentive, insightful, and that seemed to want nothing more than to see me do well and prosper. It was pure. It was exactly what I needed at the time. Although neither of us were looking for a relationship, “I” became “WE” in a matter of months, and we have been inseparable ever since. I can’t remember what life was like before him. We are each other’s happily ever after. ♥️
how they asked
May 18, 2017 will always be a special day to me. It’s the day my best friend got down on one knee in front of my friends and asked me to be his wife. Unbeknownst to me, he had been planning this with my best friends for some months. I was preparing to make the move to Durham, NC from Tampa, FL to be with him because I’d decided that I was ready for a change that I didn’t want to be 600+ miles away from him any longer. I thought we were just having a going away dinner where my FL friends could wish me well and we could all exchange our “see you laters”, but that night turned out to be so much more than I could ever have imagined. Calvin wanted to do a toast and I still was completely oblivious to what was happening around me. It wasn’t until he was actually down on one knee that it all began to register and I finally understood. His intentions were clear.. He knew what he needed and he knew that he wanted me to be by his side for the rest of his life.
Between the shock, disbelief, and happy tears, I managed to nod my head and say “Yes!”. Then, the staff brought out the amazing Harry Potter cake he had his sister make for the occasion (and if you know me, you know that HP is a not no secret obsession of mine) and at that moment, no one else in that room mattered. It was a magical night, one that I will never forget.
