How We Met: Marc-Andre and I first met in high school where we sat right next to each other for an entire year in math class. Marc-Andre even took me out on a date to get ice cream one night, but it wasn’t until we reconnected four years later that the sparks started to fly. I was in my senior year of college at UCF and spending a summer in Los Angeles for an internship when he reached out to me because he was transferring to UCF. We discovered we’d be living right around the corner from each other and we spent weeks catching up through countless text messages, phone calls, and even a few Skype dates.
When I returned to Orlando after my summer in LA, he offered to cook me dinner with his roommates the Sunday before classes start. I couldn’t deny a home-cooked meal and a handsome man, so I happily joined them for tacos. Little did we know, we would be together every day from that night on.
how they asked: Skip to nearly four years after our first dinner together, Marc-Andre and I booked a commercial for Disney World where we were labeled the “Couple Kissing in Front of the Castle”. It was the easiest job I’ve ever had to do, wink wink. Looking back, Marc did have an Oscar winning performance keeping his cool during the 3 hours we had to wait before going on set to film our scene in the commercial. The director had us simply kissing, several times in front of Cinderella’s Castle, and while I felt a little shy about it, I was enjoying every minute! The director then asked us to “french kiss” and I thought it was totally inappropriate for Disney! But he insisted, so I turned towards Marc ready to give the classiest french kiss I could ever imagine doing. Marc just stood there, frozen. I can’t say that I didn’t see it coming, but the moment still caught me completely off guard. He squeezed my hands so tightly that he didn’t even have to start talking for my heart to begin racing. My eyes began to blur with happy tears as he spoke, what I assume, a beautiful speech before getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him. Seeing the oval diamond ring for the first time literally took my breath away, causing a lingering moment before squealing a “yes!”.
The Disney production team allowed us to just soak in this amazing moment for several minutes, but I could feel the excitement around us. The background talent and crew were tearing up, the Disney guests were cheering, and I was still up on cloud nine. It was absolutely nothing short of magical. Keep an eye out for a Disney World commercial with a real-life proposal on it!
