How We Met
Cuong and I met in April of 2017 and believe me when I say it was completely random! It all started with a follow on my Instagram and a simple message on Snapchat about my new shoes that started it all (of course it would be about shoes since we are such shoe heads). After messaging back and forth for a while and getting to know each other more, I figured we should meet once he got back from his trip from Seattle.
Our first-time meeting was not at a coffee shop, the movies, or any of those typical places…we met at the gym. Yup! Working out our back and biceps was our first “date,” and we would not have it any other way. We ended up standing outside after our workout session and that is when we really got to know each other and ended up realizing how similar we were. Was it the part when we talked about loving fried chicken and wings when I hooked him or was it the love for the same Wingstop flavors? All jokes aside, I think it was the first that we both finally met someone who we could relate to when it came to goals, interests, and same mindset on what was important/needed in life.
Ever since that initial “date,” the rest has been history. It’s crazy that although we may be very similar, we are such opposites at the same time. He’s shy, I’m a social butterfly; he’s quiet, I’m totally not; he’s patient and I’m just not that patient. Opposites attract, right? We balance each other out and it became clearer after spending more time with each other that this love is a sure thing.
how they asked
Let’s flash-forward to our anniversary trip to Europe. Despite our plan to stay local and save money, we decided to just go for it. Adventuring to Milan, Paris, Berlin, and Rome was on the list and if you thought to yourself “Oooh, it has to be Paris,” you’re not wrong! After doing some site seeing and celebrating Bastille Day, he decided we should catch the sunrise at Place du Trocadéro. We started making our way there around 4:45 in the morning and once there we were just taking pictures of the Eiffel Tower and some cute couple pictures. After the sun came out, he suggested we walk around the park near the Trocadero and eventually sat down on a bench nearby.
We always have this joke of asking each other “how much do you love me” and I guess that was the perfect intro for him to do his thing. After asking me that, I asked him and he responded “I love you enough to get you this…” while reaching into his pocket to pull something out. Mhm! Popped open the box, got down on one knee, and proposed. Tears ran down my face as he was proposing, and within that moment it just felt so unreal. We got engaged in the City of Love with the Eiffel Tower in the background. Needless to say, …he did an amazing job and here we are planning for the next big milestone in our lives!
