How We Met
We met at Hidden House Coffee about three and a half years ago. It wasn’t love at first sight or anything super mushy, in fact, I had a boyfriend of five years and Ben was in a place in his life where he was beginning to settle down. In hindsight, it was God working His perfect timing and preparing us for a new season in our lives, regardless of our pasts. My mom actually knew Ben for about a year before I had met him. They did business together and I knew him as “the coffee boy”.
I finally met him because I started working for my mom and I then began seeing him every week at the coffee shop. We became friends and months later we began to date. He quickly wooed me with his gentleman like ways and his love for God.
how they asked
In order to tell the proposal, I have to rewind about three years to our first date… It was by far (besides him proposing) the most romantic night of my life. He picked me up from my house, told me to grab a scarf on our way out, and when we got in the car, he told me I had to blindfold myself. (And if I didn’t.. he would basically do it for me lol)
After driving for about fifteen minutes the car stopped, and he said, “no peaking!” I then heard my car door open and he helped guide me out. We stopped and he told me I could take my blindfold off.
Eyes wide open, I saw Hidden House with candle lit lanterns hugging the walk way to the side courtyard, rose petals scattered all over the ground, and lights wrapped around all the trees and strung all above us. I heard soft music playing and saw a table set for two with a single rose as the center piece.
We ate an amazing dinner under the twinkling lights and I remember thinking that I never wanted the night to end.
Now, fast forward to Thursday, October 6th, Ben recreated that night for me but replaced the rose pedals for baby’s breath, made a new playlist, added more twinkling lights, borrowed a few details to incorporate our love for antiques, and instead of dessert… he asked me to marry him!
He asked me to dance, and before I knew it, he was down on one knee asking me to spend the rest of my life with him.
What an honor! Immediately, I burst into tears, my knees were shaking and I didn’t even know what he was saying because I was so stunned but I understood what was happening. Obviously, I said YES! He also surprised me with two of our good friends photographing the whole night! Our friend David was hiding on the roof haha!
I never told him but I wished and prayed for a long time that he would propose at Hidden House after recreating our first date. It was an absolute dream and it’s more than I could have ever imagined.
My heart felt like it tripled in size and all I could do was stare at my ring and feel so privileged that I just said yes to spending the rest of my life with my best friend!
You see, three years ago, I thought it was the best night of my life but I didn’t know God was preparing me to be Ben’s wife or how truly loved I was/am. I’m loved and adored by a God who loves me more in a second than I will ever love in this lifetime.
I get to spend my life with someone who constantly pursues God, pursues me, and reminds me of this Great Love daily. All I can say is life is so sweet and precious, and I’m thrilled to embark on this journey with Ben and continue celebrating life and it’s constant gifts from my amazing Father!
