How we met: James and I met our junior year in high school at Dover High in 2006. He played basketball and I played volleyball, I knew he had a crush on me but at the time I was in a relationship. He says it was love at first site and I thought he was the “jock” type kind of guy, so I would also pass up on his flirty attempts.
But over the years we became close friends and on August 1, 2009 we took our “bestfriendship” to the next level and officially started dating! James is the most incredible guy I know and I’m so glad that I gave our love a chance. After 5 years of dating… He decided to pop the question!!!
how they asked: On December 13, 2014 during his graduation party, he popped the question in front of all of our family and friends. It was extremely special because it wasn’t expected at all. It was his big day, graduating from Delaware State University so the fact that he shared his moment with me makes me love him even more! His family and friends gave their toasts and congratulations to him and then he walked up to the front of the room to thank his guests (or so I thought).
James thanked his family, friends, and my parents for all of their love and support over the years. He saved his thanks to me for last and the grand finale of the night (which of course I had no idea why). After sharing with everyone how much I mean to him and I’ve motivated him and encouraged him to finish college, he called me up to the front of the room and got down on one knee.
I was extremely emotional, hands covering my face and all. I didn’t hear a word of what he was saying except for ” I love you, will you marry me?” And I replied “he’ll yes!” The moment was so perfect and everyone hovered around us to give hugs, take photos and congratulate us. 12-13-14 was the last sequential date we will ever see in this lifetime and for me…it was perfect!
