How We Met
I met Derek during the summer time, I was about to start my junior year of college. I work at a local gym. He came into my work one night while I was working out and I saw him, he didn’t even notice me yet. He was talking to one of my best friends and I had asked him about Derek. So many months later I had actually found his Instagram account and liked one of his pictures. A couple days later he messaged me and we started talking from there, working out together, and going on dates. A couple months later he surprised me with a bouquet of sunflowers (my favorite) and asked me to be his girlfriend!

It was the Friday before my 27th birthday and Derek told me we were going to be going to take professional photos out at wind wolves preserve, it’s a really popular hiking area in Bakersfield, and that we would be taking them for my birthday and so that we would have profession pictures of us to put up in our new home we had recently moved into together. Our photo shoot session lasted about an hour.
At the end of the shoot our photographer, Ben, said that he was “going to change his camera battery really quick” little did I know that this was Ben and Derek’s key word to show Derek that Ben was ready to snap photos for the proposal. Instantly Derek’s whole demeanor changed. He went from being silly and goofing around to instantly being serious and he grabbed both my hands and turned me towards him so that we were face to face.
He’s eyes were teary and he said to me “I want to spend forever with you, I want to continue our walk with God and revolving our relationship around him, I want you to take my last name, and I want you to be my wife” then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. We were both crying tears of joy as I said Yes!
