How We Met
Derek and I met through an online video game, World of Warcraft, in December 2006. I was fairly new to the game and had many questions. I was fortunate to find someone that was friendly enough to assist me in becoming a better player. They were patient, helpful, and kind and over the next two months Derek and I became fast friends. We had discovered that we lived near each other and after meeting in person, we quickly grew feelings for one another and soon became a couple. Our relationship continued to grow stronger every day, and I wouldn’t have wanted to share the last 8 years of my life with anyone else.
how they asked
In May 2015 Derek and I went to visit my sister Olivia, who was studying photography, in Vancouver, Canada. Over the weekend, we took the ferry to Vancouver Island to see the famous Butchart Gardens. I was not suspicious of Olivia bringing her backpack full of photography gear, as this would be the perfect place for her to complete some homework assignments. The gardens were absolutely beautiful with flowers everywhere you looked. We made our way past the tourists to a raised peak in the center of the gardens, where we were greeted with a gorgeous scenic view. Before I knew it, I felt a tap on my shoulder. When I turned around I found my best friend down on one knee with the most beautiful ring I’d ever seen and my sister off to the side taking photos of us. Even after all these years of being together, I could tell that he was still so nervous. I gasped and happy tears swiftly followed. He looked into my eyes and said “Jessica will you marry me?” and after a few more tears of joy, I was finally able to muster a “Yes”, to complete the most perfect proposal I could ever ask for.
