How We Met
Shane and I went to school together in Ireland and have been together for over 10 years. Our mothers are best friends and they went to school together too so needless to say, they were thrilled!
I had a huge crush on him when I was in high school but we didn’t get together until I was in college. I wish I could go back and tell my 12 year old self that she gets to marry that guy :)
how they asked
6 years ago, we moved to Melbourne, Australia – It’s a city that has been so good to us. We want to move back to Ireland some day but we have such a love for the city that Shane knew that the Melbourne skyline should feature in his proposal.
We’ve been together so long that I always thought I’d know when he was going to propose. I thought he’d be so nervous and I knew him so well that I would pick up on it but he couldn’t have caught me more by surprise! He showed no nerves at all and I had no idea!
We went to a theatre show that night and Shane was so relaxed that he even fell asleep! – twice! After, he told me that he wanted to show me some new Christmas lights along the Yarra river & (knowing that I’m a sucker for Christmas lights), I agreed to walk down with him.
He brought me to a spot with the perfect view of the city that we love so much and before I had time to pick up what was happening – he had gotten down on one knee!
My parents actually got engaged in Melbourne too over 30 years ago and it turns out that Shane proposed about 10 yards away from the exact spot they got engaged!
We’re getting married in Ireland next year and our venue is aptly named “the Skyline Suite!”
It means so much that we will forever have Melbourne featuring in one of the biggest moments of our lifes and when we do move back to Ireland some day, the photos of that moment will hang on our walls and forever remind us of the city that gave us so much :)
