How We Met
Both my family and Matt’s family have beach houses down the shore in Margate, NJ. Friday night of Labor Day Weekend (2015), Matt approached me at a local beach bar, Maynards. On a high from landing a new job, and with some liquor flowing, Matt was feeling confident. With a big smile on his face he introduced himself to me. We had a great conversation. Fast forward to 2 days later, Sunday evening. We both happened to return to the same bar, Maynards. Matt walked up to me again, introduced himself, and asked me the SAME exact questions he did the other night. I was not shy to say, “Are you kidding me? We met the other night!!” Matt (a little confused) felt so embarrassed and thought he lost his chance. He tried to make it up to me, but I was not having it. With the help of a mutual friend, who put in a good word for Matt, I decided it would be ok for Matt to get my number. Thank god Matt persisted! And the rest… is history!
how they asked
It was my 26th birthday, and Matt told me he had an activity and dinner planned. At 3:30 in the afternoon we took an Uber and got dropped off at Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia. As Matt started walking me toward the middle of the Square, I was so confused as to where we were going. It was 14 degrees. In front of the beautiful Christmas tree, Matt dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him!
I said yes (twice!)
Frozen and with my fingers numb, Matt said we should go somwhere to get drinks and call the family. As Matt walks me into the lobby of Scarpetta Restaurant, the lights were dimmed, with rose petals and candles in the shape of hearts on the floor.
Two seconds later with the flash of light and cheer, I hear, “SURPRISE!” Both Matt and my immediate families were there with excellent planning by Matt.
It was a celebratory night full of shock, laughter, family, great food, and of course… birthday cake!!
