How We Met
Darren and I met through our mutual friend who actually met him through another friend, I remember her telling me at work one day saying how she found the perfect guy for me. I’m not one for blind dates but I agreed anyways without having any expectations. I told her that I would only meet him in a group setting because I didn’t want it to be awkward and next thing you know its this big group date because everyone was curious of this guy I was going to be meeting. I love arcades so we agreed to meet at Dave & Buster’s to make things casual. I remember I already regret coming out and just wanted the night to be over. Finally, when she introduced Darren to me all my worries disappeared. He is not the kind of guy I would typically go for but something inside of me just sparked. I still remembered his big smile when we were introduced to each other and we hit it off right away. We were all hanging out but later on, he took me away from the group so we can have some alone time. We played the hoops/basketball game which I won twice in a row. (We still laugh about that time he failed trying to impress me) We had a fun night and exchanged numbers, he texts me the next day and I agreed to go on a date with him a couple days later. He picked me up around 2:00 pm for lunch and the date just kept going until 3:00 am as we couldn’t stop chatting and laughing. The same day he asked me to be his girlfriend and we’ve been inseparable ever since. Here we are 5 years later ready to move on to the next chapter in our lives together.
how they asked
He told me that we were having a nice dinner at the Thompson Hotel with his friends so I dressed up for the occasion. We had a really busy and eventful year so we didn’t have too many occasions for a nice night out. When he picked me up from my house that day it reminded me of the days when we first dated. Little did I know he had a surprised planned all along when we arrived at the Thompson Hotel the girl at the concierge guided us to the elevator. We went straight up to the rooftop lounge and there wasn’t anyone around, he then held my hand and guided me outside.
He had a smirk on his face and told me “let’s check out the view” I was clueless so I agreed and as he led me outside I saw the Marry Me sign and I held him back thinking that someone has a proposal planned. I remember telling him “I don’t think we’re supposed to be out here!” He told me to not worry and we’ll be quick so I followed him. I was in awe with the beautiful view and that’s when he held both my hands and started to talk about our journey together. (To be honest that part was a blur) That’s when I noticed how nervous he looked and I remember crying and next thing you know he’s on his knee proposing to me!
Darren is not the type to plan something like this usually so it really took me by surprise and I’m so glad he had Victor capture our special moment together as it is definitely a moment that we will cherish for the rest of our lives.
