How We Met
It was all an honest mistake. In 2009, I sent a greeting to a wrong person, who turned out to be her, in Windows Live Messenger. From there, we chatted and eventually started to hang out with one another. I felt that I have chemistry with her and we clicked instantly. I followed my heart and it led me to her. No doubt, the mis-sent “Hello” was the best mistake I’ve ever made. Time flies. In a blink of an eye, we are celebrating our 9th anniversary together. Cheers to many more years of happiness and togetherness!
how they asked
Starting from 22.02.2017 (our 8th anniversary), I had been writing a message for her and shooting a lip sync video every single day (some of them involves friends and family) for an entire year. All those videos were compiled into a 4-minute clip which features my cover of R-chord’s romantic hit song. To build suspense, I threw in a fake trailer I made using footages from my university and department corporate videos. With support from her best friends, I managed to obtain her ring size and tricked her to come back Penang for the proposal without raising any suspicion. On the past Valentine’s Day, I also pampered her with manicure and pedicure so she would look her best on her big day.
On 22.02.2018 (our 9th anniversary; the big day) I got us a high tech studio equipped with smart home automation and a 210 inch home cinema. Deceiving her that we would be going for fine dining dinner, she was very well dressed and of course, gorgeous. Moments before we stepped out of the studio, I faked a stomach ache and rushed to the toilet. From there I dimmed the interior lighting and played the video on the big screen wirelessly. Puzzled, stunned, tears started to well up in her eyes. She was holding back her tears but eventually failed as tears, tears and more tears sprang to her eyes. The video ended with a romantic winter scenery. I came out, walked her to the front of the big screen, kneeled to the ground, detached the custom-made crotchet heart ring box pinned to my left chest (symbolizing my heart) and pulled out a ring and popped the question. She, still stunned and shaking, looked into my eyes, caught her breathe and said: “Yes, I do!”.
A year-long secret surprise proposal plan and dedication, only for a moment like this. They always say, “When a girl is in love, you can see it in her smile; When a guy is in love, you can see it in his eyes.” I think that saying is very true. Last but not least, a big thank you to friends and family who had a part in the surprise proposal. Also, I’d like to thank you all again for the wishes and blessings.
