How We Met
Matt and I met using an online dating site in May, 2013. After exchanging messages for a few weeks we finally decided to meet up at at local restaurant bar. We had a great time talking and laughing that evening and made plans to hang out soon after.
We took it easy for most of the first year, just hanging out and forming a great friendship. It wasn’t until May 2014 that I realized I had fallen head over heels for him – he works full time for the Air National Guard and had to stay in Charleston, SC from late May to early September for training. During the weeks leading up to him leaving I’d cry every time I drove to his house knowing that I wasn’t going to be seeing him as often as I was used too. When I flew down to visit him for the 4th of July weekend I told him that I loved him, he said it back, and we’ve been inseparable ever since!
how they asked
For the past several years my parents have rented a condo in Siesta Key, FL for 2 weeks. Whenever I have had the chance I have stayed with them for a few days and for the past 2 years Matt has joined us. Siesta Key is a beautiful area with gorgeous beaches and amazing sunsets. Speaking of sunsets, I am slightly obsessed with them. If I’m not with Matt and I see an exceptionally beautiful one I will text him and tell him to look outside so he can get a glimpse of it as well. I have seen some of the most beautiful sunsets in Siesta Key so I make it a point for everyone to be on the beach every night when I’m there so we can can all appreciate the view together.
October 12, 2015 was our last night in Siesta Key before we headed back home the following day. After Matt, my parents, and I had dinner we did our usual walk to the beach. Matt was acting a little weird that night, he kept clearing his throat and fidgeting, which isn’t like him. Just as the sun was starting to set he pulled me closer and asked me if I loved him, I said of course I did and he said that’s good because I want to spend the next 50 years watching the sunset with you. At that point I started putting his unusual behavior and his words together and started getting super nervous myself! The next thing I knew the man of my dreams was kneeling before me asking me to marry him!
My parents had been taking pictures of the sunset themselves and almost totally missed the proposal! They turned around at the perfect moment though and were able to snap a picture of him on one knee and our embrace afterwards. It was my dream proposal and he made it even better than I ever could have imagined it to be.
