How We Met

I met Danielle when I was riding my beach cruiser on the beach. She was standing there with her son and I was listening to Sam hunt on my radio that was in my basket on the front of my bike. She heard the music and said something that made me stop.

how they asked

Planning a proposal was no easy task. I was excited and very nervous just thinking about it. My idea to use a drone came from watching my friend “Captain Eric” use one on his fishing charter. His good friend Dan owned the drone and Dan had sent me a message on FaceBook after commenting on one of Eric’s videos. When I spoke with Dan about wanting him to shoot a video with the drone he mentioned that it would be awesome to have the drone deliver the actual ring. I lost a few nights sleep over thinking about the drone crashing in the Gulf of Mexico but it all went well. My neighbor Rob refinishes old surf boards and he happened to have a 12.5ft long board the we spray painted “Will You Marry Me” to the bottom of it. Behind the siesta key fitness gym in the village is a small store full of nick/nacks and tourist stuff. They had the perfect old clear bottle with a cork and small scroll paper rolled up. On the piece of paper I wrote a paragraph from one of my favorite books.

God is life. God is life in action. The best way to say “I love you, God” is to live your life doing your best. The best way to say, “Thank you, God,” is by letting go of the past and living in the present moment, right here and now. Whatever life takes away from you, let it go. When you surrender and let go of the past, you allow yourself to be fully alive in the moment. Letting go of the past means you can enjoy the dream that is happening right now.

With the help of my other neighbor Don at the end of the street he walked the message in the bottle and the board to the beach about a half hour before Danielle, Greysen and I would ride to the beach on our bikes. Moments before the beach I played the tracks that I put together on spotify earlier in the day. As we approached the surf board in the sand we slowed down and I stopped our bikes and asked Greysen what was that bottle laying in the sand? He ran over and picked it up. I had tied a small piece of fishing line to the note so it would come out of the bottle as he pulled the cork out. He handed the note to his mom and she began to read those same words that I had shared with my mom the day she got engaged. As she was reading the drone came down from the sky with the ring attached to it. I pulled the scissors out of my pocket and cut the line. As Greysen stood by my side I turned the surf board over as she read the words “Will You Marry Me” I got down on one knee and opened up the box containing the ring. I was nervously shaking as there was quite an audience surrounding us and thankfully she said “YES”. It was the very spot where we met that I asked her to be my wife.
