Daniela and Joseph

Where to Propose in Casa Belvedere, Staten Island, NY

How We Met

Joe’s sister, Tori and I met through a mutual friend. One day, Tori reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in a blind date. Everyone who knows me, knows I NEVER go on blind dates because I have what Joe calls “Daniela Face” and any thought/emotion/feeling is shown on face. However, this time around I inquired a little and when Tori stated it was her brother, I said “sure why not, no hard feelings if we don’t hit it off”.

Joe and I made plans to meet on October 1, 2013 for dinner and drinks after work.
On October 1, 2013, Joe and I met on Wall Street, across from the NYSE. We had dinner and drinks at Stone Street Tavern. I tried my hardest to smile the whole night and not have “Daniela Face”. At the end of the night, I thought it went well. However, according to Joe, he didn’t think it went well until I thanked him later that night for dinner and drinks (who doesn’t say thank you ?!?!). Needless to say, we hit it off, and on October 12, 2013, we were officially in a relationship and the rest is history.

how they asked

My friend asked if Joe and I wanted to meet her for dinner at Casa Belvedere in Staten Island, NY. I didn’t think anything of it because it was a norm for us to have dinner there from time to time. We made plans to meet for dinner at 9:00 pm on Friday, September 8, 2017.

On September 8, 2017, I was not feeling well and tried my very hardest to cancel plans (poor Joe). Finally, I said we’ll go, but I admit, I was a real pain because I was not feeling well. Once we arrived, we began talking with Maria Buonsante, who runs The Belvedere Club at Casa Belvedere. As she walked and talked, we followed. Little did I know, she was walking us outside to the balcony. Once we reached the balcony, there were rose petals on the floor, candles, and two dozen roses with lilies (my favorite!) set up. I looked at the setup and was at a loss for words and when I turned around to Joe, he was on one knee and I started crying and couldn’t stop. At that point, WE WERE ENGAGED!

Immediately after, all I kept saying was that I needed to call my parents. Maria suggested we get settled at our table and get a glass of wine and then call my parents. I had no idea what was about to happen. I agreed but as she walked us to the other part of the restaurant, I kept insisting that I needed to call my parents. Well, as she opened the door, a room full of our closest family and friends yelled “Congratulations” and again, I started crying.
