How We Met
Mike and I met online in May 2017. Our first date was at a local pizza place.
I expected it would be a quick introduction dinner. Since I didn’t know if he would be who he said he was, I gave my friend Holly his name, number, and the location of the pizza shop – and told her to make sure I answered my phone if I wasn’t home in three hours.
Three hours later, Holly called me concerned that I hadn’t come home… we were having such a good time, I was still at dinner! Pizza then turned into moonlight kayaking, visits to New York, Disney and Aruba trips… and the dates never stopped coming.
How They Asked
On June 15, 2019, Mike took me to Newport. It had rained all week, but that day was sunny and perfect. We walked around Thames Street, got a milkshake, and enjoyed the weather. We then headed to the Cliff Walk, which was where we had one of our first dates. A few minutes into the walk, we came upon a blanket with candles and flowers. Mike asked, “What’s that?” I shrugged, unaware, and responded, “No idea.” Mike told me it was for us, brought me over, and said something – I was so in shock, I can’t remember – and got on one knee.
Turns out, he had two of my best friends set it up for us! I was so overwhelmed with happiness that I cried for a VERY long time before finally managing to say YES! And to end the day, he had both of our families waiting at one of our favorite restaurants in the area. It was perfect!
