How We Met
Jonathan and I met in high school, we were 16. We stayed friends for years, as our lives took two separate paths. Jonathan left for the Navy and I headed to college. We would talk randomly on the phone here and there to catch up. Fast forward 10 years, we hung out of the first time in years. This time around, something was different. Jonathan was living in Hawaii and I was in Washington, DC at the time, so we weren’t sure how things would work with the distance. Jonathan showed up in DC for a 48 hour trip to show how much he wanted to give this a try. The rest is history, we were able to make things work from hundreds of miles apart and separate time zones for 2 years. We loved to go on adventures hiking and exploring Hawaii and wanted our engagement photos to honor the spirit of our relationship. We are so excited to finally be together in the same timezone in Jacksonville, FL.
How They Asked
December 2017, I thought Jonathan and I were just taking another adventurous vacation to find the best waterfalls. I quickly came to the realization that this trip to Kauai, Hawaii, would be our greatest adventure to date. After a day of hiking, I had no idea he had such a special dinner planned on the beach. It began to rain while getting ready for the dinner, I couldn’t understand why Jonathan was acting so weird about the rain. He had a personal cabana set up on the beach with a three course meal. After dinner, I asked the waiter to take a picture of us, when I turned around, he was down on one knee. It was a complete surprise.
