How We Met
My husband Joe and I never thought we would find the one. We were both in our mid 30s. We met on eharmony in May of 2015. We hit it off right away. After 6 months Joe had moved from Indiana to Chicago to live with me. In the later months we had talked about marriage but nothing serious.
how they asked
On June 15, 2016, Joe was picking me up from work at a year around private school where I work as a preschool teacher. An hour before coming to get me he stopped off to buy my engagement ring. He said he was going to plan out how he was going to ask me. His original plan was going to be at the Chicago Blackhawks convention we were going to. He pulled up to the school and he decided he was going to ask me there, he could wait no longer. Through the window I saw him run out of the car. I went to the front entrance door and saw him standing there. He was going to ask me then but I had no idea. I asked him what he was doing. His excuse was that it was so nice outside he wanted some fresh air. I didn’t think any thing of it and invited him in to see my classroom for the first time.
I told the children he was my friend Joe and introduced him to my assistant teacher. I grabbed my bags and we were about to leave when my assistant stopped me to ask me about a project we were going to do with the class the next day. As we talked Joe kneeled down behind me by the door way to tie his shoe or so I thought. After a moment He said “Cindy can I ask you a question?” I was totally oblivious to it all. I spun around and said “what honey” as I saw him hold up the ring. Joe smiled and said “will you marry me” I was in shock. I stood there with my hand over my mouth as my assistant teacher screamed with delight. when another teacher walked by and saw what was happening, she told my assistant to grab a camera.
As they took pictures I began to cry from happiness. I heard my kids say ” why is Miss Cindy crying”. My assistant explained that it was because I was so happy. She then looked at me as I stilled gripped the bags I had in my hand even more tightly now and said “well what’s your answer?” I had forgotten to say yes! Joe was still on one knee smiling at me. I screamed “Yes! Yes! Of course I’ll marry you!!!” He placed the ring on my finger and stood up as we squeezed each other in big hug then kissed. My class and fellow teachers cheered. After the shock I ran around the school announcing I was engaged. It was one of the happiest moments of my life.
One reason I was in such shock was not only did he completely catch me off guard, it was the way I dreamed it would happen. I never told that to Joe before he asked. Teaching has been my dream since the age of five. Having Joe ask me in front of my teachers and kids in my classroom was my dream proposal. I would not ask for it to happen any other way.
Joe and I married on June 25, 2017. As I said in my wedding vows, Joe is my silver lining in the clouds, my prince charming to my now fairy tale. Joe is my happy ending.
