How We Met (as told by Hannah, the bride!): Chase and I met our senior year of high school after having gone to the same schools and living within minutes of each other since 6th grade. A mutual friend of ours introduced us at lunch the first week of school, and we immediately became friends. Over the next few years, our friendship grew stronger and we dated off and on. Chase was in the army stationed in Georgia and I was going to college in Texas. We eventually figured out how to make the long distance relationship work and decided it was time to take the next step in our relationship. We are both so excited to get married and ditch the long distance relationship. My only regret is that we didn’t meet sooner!
how they asked (as told by Chase, the groom!): I wanted to give Hannah a memorable proposal, the proposal she dreamed about. She means the world to me and has been with me through good times and bad. We both had been talking about marriage for a while, and were ready to take the next step in our lives. Because of this, it was rather difficult to sneak anything past her much less plan a secret proposal without her figuring it out. I spent many nights sitting at home looking at the engagement ring I had bought trying to decide just how I was going to pull it off.
Among other things, Hannah loves the zoo. After bouncing around ideas, I decided to make the Houston Zoo the setting for my proposal. The plan was that I would set up for us to go on a behind the scenes Sea Lion tour only I would not be there. Hannah thought my plane was landing that Friday morning, and I was going to pick her up then go to the zoo. In reality, I had been in town since the Wednesday before so I could ask her dad for his blessing. Luckily, I was able to lay low for a couple days, and she did not find out that I was home. I had already set up with her friend Brittney that she would be going on the tour with Hannah due to me ‘not being able to make it.’
They both arrived at the zoo that morning and met the camera man I had hired to capture the whole thing. Fortunately, he had a good cover story, and once again Hannah was none the wiser. I watched from a safe distance as they went through the tour, and finally the moment I had been waiting for arrived. As they went into the final building, my plan was finally coming to a perfect end. I nervously stood around the corner for what seemed like hours. When they came out, I was there waiting. After Hannah realized what was happening, she lost it. I had pulled off a secret surprise proposal, and her reaction said it all. I guess she was so shocked, she doesn’t remember anything I actually said to her and at first didn’t even say “Yes!” I had family and friends there to celebrate the big moment in our lives, and I am blessed to have her as my future wife.
