How We Met
We met when I first moved to Atlanta in early 2016. Well, technically we met before I officially moved and we started facetiming regularly. When I was making the final drive to Atlanta, he talked to me almost the entire way. For our first date, we went to the Hudson Grille for brunch. If you know Martin, he’s a total character, but that day he was super reserved. I think he was pretty nervous. I barely ate, because I was super nervous as well, lol. The funny thing is when we were leaving the date, he gave me a huge hug and I was walking to my car he yelled out, “I love getting to watch you walk away!” and I let out a big laugh. I thought to myself, “That’s the guy I’ve been talking to for the last few weeks.” Once I drove off, he texted me letting me know how great of a time he had and how he couldn’t wait to see me again. I knew he was different. We’ve talked every day since.
How They Asked
He asked me a few weeks prior he asked if I wanted to go out for dinner since we hadn’t been out in so long due to COVID. Obviously, I was down. We were both fully vaccinated and I couldn’t wait to have a reason to get dressed up. Fast forward to the day of, as we’re leaving, he seemed a little “off”. But, he’s had a lot going on with work, so I assumed that’s what it was about. As we were driving to our final destination, he missed our exit and kept popping mints…again, I just assumed he had a lot on his mind…little did I know.
Once we arrived at Ponce, we parked and made our way up to The Roof. He ushered me over to this roped-off area and I kept saying things like, “We shouldn’t be over here.” “This area is roped off, let’s head over there”. To shut me up, he asked me, “What building do you work in again?” As I was looking for my building, his proposal coordinator, Neek, handed him some roses and he gestured for me to turn around.
When I turned slightly, I could see one of my best friends, River, who’s a photographer, pointing her camera at me and I felt a huge rush of emotions run over me because I knew what was happening. Martin looked into my eyes and let me know how much the last 5 years have meant to him and how ready he was for us to call each other husband and wife. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was so overwhelmed with emotions all I could do was nod my head yes. Once I did that, all of the people around us let out tons of cheers as he slid the GORGEOUS engagement ring onto my left ring finger. It was the most perfect night ever.
