How We Met: I am originally from Vero Beach, Florida and that’s where Justin and I found each other. We both worked at the same radio station together and quickly developed a special friendship. As time went on, we started dating (secretively because of work!) and soon realized we were meant to be! Justin has always been so focused on advancing his career, so when he was offered a new position in Cincinnati, Ohio with top media company Clear Channel, he couldn’t pass it up. He moved to Cincinnati and I decided to stay in Florida to pursue my own career advancement, as I had just been promoted to Local Sales Manager for my radio station cluster. We did the long distance thing for about 7 months and then at the beginning of 2012, I decided that with the new year, I needed to start a new life in a new city with my love. We’ve been living together in the awesome city of Cincinnati for a year and 3 months so far and just got engaged on March 30th, 2013. I guess you could say things worked out perfectly! Now onto the fairy tale proposal…
how they asked: It started out like any other Saturday morning – sleeping in, cleaning up and brunch. As I started getting ready for brunch, Justin told me he had to take the trash out, but he’d be right back. After a few minutes, there was a knock on my door. Surprised that someone was knocking so early on a Saturday, I hesitantly opened the door to find my friend on the other side. “What are you doing here?!” I asked.
She quickly handed me a handwritten note from Justin which read, “I love you. You are my best friend and I want today to be the best day of your life and thus the best day of both of our lives together. PS. See you tonight!”Again, completely confused as to what was going on, my friend told me that as per Justin’s request (and credit card!) she was to take me shopping for a dress for dinner at any store I wanted! Still confused (but super excited to shop!), we made our way to Saks Fifth Avenue to do some damage. After I found the perfect little number, my friend whisked me away to another surprising part of my day – the salon for total beautification. Again shocked and confused, but excited at the same time, I spent the next 4 hours getting my hair, nails and make up done for dinner later that night. At the end of an exhausting day at the salon (jk!), another friend of mine came to pick me up and take me home to get ready. Upon entering my apartment, I was greeted with champagne chilling on ice, as well as my new dress somehow set up with the perfect shoes and accessories to kick my outfit up a notch. Within minutes of getting ready, there was another mysterious and questionable knock at my apartment door.As I opened the door, I was shocked to see 4 of Justin’s friends, suavely dressed in suits and ties. Before I could even think, they blindfolded me, walked me to a nearby car and took me on a terrifying car ride in order to throw my direction off for where we were headed. As we got to the location and they brought me out of the car, no one spoke to me or answered any of my questions. They sat me down in a creaky old chair -still with my blindfold on– and we waited.
After a good 5 minutes and after hearing some very weird noises, I was instructed to take my blindfold off. As soon as I did, I realized that I was on the bank of the Ohio River directly across from the gorgeous Cincinnati Reds baseball stadium, staring directly at sleek helicopter that was flying directly toward me.
As the helicopter landed, I locked eyes with Justin and new that this was IT! He jumped out of the helicopter and I immediately ran to meet him. As we hugged and held each other and whispered I love you, he told me how much he loved me and wanted to be with me forever.
And as he slowly got down on one knee, I became overwhelmed with emotion and also dropped down to my knees.
Then he presented me with the most GORGEOUS ring I could have ever imagined and of course I said YES!
And with that, Justin and I climbed back into the helicopter he rode in on for a night time joy ride of the beautiful Queen City. Though I thought my fairy tale was over, when we landed we were greeted by a horse drawn carriage who then took us to our favorite swanky restaurant in town.
It was truly the BEST DAY EVER and I am so blessed to have such an amazing man create such an epic moment for both of our lives. ALSO I must mention…. as the emotional moment from blindfold to bended knee was happening, I didn’t even realize that not only had my friends shown up to witness our special moment, Justin had arranged for professional photographers to capture the entire event!!! So not only will I remember that special day forever, I can also relive those very emotional moments through fantastic photos!
