How We Met
It all started when my best friend, Sarah, just got engaged and wanted to have her bachelorette party in New Orleans. Her soon to be mother-in-law lived in Baton Rouge so it was perfect! There were 11 of us girls going… talk about a party!! The night before we left I decided to throw a little surprise pre-bachelorette party for Sarah at her apartment. I had been running around ALL day trying to make everything perfect for when she got home. Meanwhile, Sarah was sending me a pictures of a handsome guy saying “he wants to meet you.” I was pretty confused considering Sarah and I have known each other since kindergarten and we have the same friends. Unto my knowledge, Sarah and her mother-in-law had been texting and trying to set me up with one of her mother-in-law’s coworkers the whole day. I was told he (Chase) would be coming to a family 4th of July bbq one day while we were down in Louisana. The bbq came around and there was no sign of Chase. Apparently he had other plans that he could not get out of. I was bummed to say the least!
When I got back to Washington (2000 miles away), I decided that it was silly he didn’t come to the bbq so I took matters into my own hands and proceeded to add then message Chase on facebook (not creepy I swear). I told him he missed out not coming to the barbecue and he (finally) messaged me back the next day. From then on Facebook messaging turned into texting and texting eventually led to calling. We would send each other small surprises.. Chase sent me flowers while I was at work and I would order him pizza when he worked long hours. About 1 month later Chase booked a flight for Washington for a weekend trip to see me. August 11th came around and I was standing at baggage claim 12, more excited than nervous when I saw him. When we met it felt so natural just as it had over the phone. Everything felt right in the world at that moment. We spent the whole weekend together. I showed him around my favorite parts of Washington, and it was like we had known each other for years! He officially asked me to be his girlfriend and booked a flight back to Washington for the following weekend to be my date for Sarah’s wedding. So sweet!
how they asked
Fast forward to 4 months later and many flights going back and forth from WA to LA (and vice versa), we had been talking about what we should do about the distance and decided that I would move to Louisiana since Chase had just bought a house earlier this year (ahhh!!). We had been packing our U-haul and making plans with friends and family before the big move. I had planned (or so I thought) a going away party a few days before we took off. Before the going away dinner we had plans to go see a waterfall that Chase liked with some friends.
A little back story.. the first weekend Chase flew up here, I took him to Snoqualmie Falls where we hiked and took pictures since Chase had never seen such a big a waterfall in person before. He loved it! Back to the story… I went and got my nails done with my mom and one of my best friends that morning. Afterwards I ended up taking a nap and woke up right when we were supposed to be headed to the falls (oops!). I was trying to make light of the situation and be silly and Chase was clearly frustrated saying I wasn’t taking this seriously.. Um helloooo we have already seen the waterfall, no big deal right?! I threw on some warm clothes and did my hair then brought my makeup in the car with me. Once we got there it was raining so I was trying to get through the “hike” as quick as possible. We walked to each view point to stop briefly and look at the falls. When we got to the last view point Sarah and Evan had disappeared and Chase and I were standing together looking out. As I was about to turn around and look for Sarah, Chase began talking about our relationship and how much he loves me and then he got down on one knee and said those words I have been waiting to hear. Of course I said YES! He put my ring on and I turned around to see not only Sarah and Evan, but my sister and 3 other best friends. Also, that “going away party” that I thought I planned? Turns out it was an engagement party that my best friend planned for us and I had nothing to do with! When you know, you know!
