How We Met
Mike and I met the first week of freshman year at our first college crew practice. My friend from growing up had asked me to join the men’s rowing team because they needed a coxswain for the men’s freshman boat and I was the shortest person he knew. When I saw Mike for the first time, I couldn’t look away! After that first practice I went back to hang out with all my new friends in the dorm and told them how cute I thought he was. It turned out, one of the guys there knew him from growing up! Nothing happened then, but two years later during the spring of our junior year the same guy invited me to a party that Mike was hosting because he remembered how excited I was freshman year. As they say, the rest was history.
how they asked
After college, we did long distance from Boston to New York and grew even closer. After two years Mike made the decision to move to New York. Eight months later, he sent me roses at work. The note with the flowers said there was money in my purse for a cab and to use it to meet him at Ladies Pavillion in Central Park at 6pm. When I walked up to him in the park, he was shaking! I thought it was just because he was cold. We went for a walk down to the edge of the rowing lake and Mike told me he knew I was the one he couldn’t live without and he was so happy he had moved to New York. Next thing I knew, he was on his knee and asked me to marry him!
It was two days before my birthday and he had organized all of our friends and family to celebrate a “surprise birthday party” but it was really for our engagement! Mike is the most patient, kind, thoughtful man I know and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him!
