Will Colton Underwood be next? On Monday, January 7, the 23rd season of ABC’s The Bachelorkicked off with two proposals during its three-hour live show across different cities in America.

Bachelor in Paradise personalities Ashley Iaconetti and Jared Haibon, who are now engaged, hosted a party in Park City, Utah, where they helped set the stage for a fan propose. A man named Alex proposed to his girlfriend Rachel. “I can’t think of a better opportunity than right now,” he expressed.

Both avid followers of ABC’s reality show, Alex said their relationship was reminiscent of the Bachelor in some ways since it “started off so quickly.”

“When you left for the summer, I knew that I didn’t want to lose you again,” he proceeded. “It was an after an episode of The Bachelor that we first said ‘I love you’ to each other. And the past three years have been incredible. I can’t wait for what our future holds. You’re the most thoughtful and kind person that I know, and you make me want to be a better man.” He then asked the question of the moment: “Will you marry me?”

In Lansing, Michigan, Kufrin’s contestants Blake Horstmann and Jason Tartick helped set up another fan proposal. This time, a man proposed to his pregnant girlfriend Kimberly.

The two proposals were somewhat foreshadowed by something Underwood said to reporters this week.

The Bachelor isn’t for marriage,” Underwood mused in a call. “Of course, you want it to end in a marriage, [but] it’s for a proposal, and it’s typically to fall in love, and to find your person, to spend time developing a relationship and spending time on a relationship and on your personal life. And that’s exactly what I did.”
