How We Met
I first met Cody in the most magical place on earth-Walt Disney World! We are both huge disney fans and it’s what brought us together! We were both participating in the Disney College Program and were taking classes as part of our internships. I had friends taking the class with me, but they all ended up dropping out. One day I came in to class and realized I was the only one at my particular table. Then Cody got up from his table and moved to sit next to me. One thing led to another and we decided to spend our day off in Magic Kingdom together. The day was perfect: we celebrated his birthday early with free pins, met Gaston, and he got me to go on Splash Mountain for the first time! As we were riding back on the ferry to the parking lot he pointed out the Wedding Pavilion where Disney World has wedding ceremonies. I had wanted to get married there since high school but hadn’t told him. He turned to me and said “I’ve always wanted to get married there.” It was like fate brought us together! We didn’t know what was happening then, but we fell head over heels in love! Three years of long distance later and we are finally happily living together.
how they asked
I can be something of a control freak but for the proposal I only had two big requests: I did not want a public Disney proposal in front of any castle or crowd and I wanted it to be outside surrounded by nature. After that I stepped back and let him plan. We were still doing long distance at the time as we finished our college degrees and I felt really sure he would propose on our next planned trip in May for his graduation ceremony. When the trip came and went with no proposal, I didn’t know what to think! I spent the next month wondering when a proposal could possibly be coming. The next trip was for my senior festivities and graduation. Cody came to visit me and joined me in a lot of the senior activities. I was the most excited for our senior formal because I love getting dressed up-and this time I got to bring my boyfriend with me to celebrate with my friends! The day of the formal rolled around and I picked out a beautiful outfit. Cody was nervous the whole day and I assumed it was because the weather was bad. Right as we were getting ready to leave, he told me that he’d surprised me with a graduation photo shoot before the formal. I was flustered at the sudden change, but packed up my cap and gown in the car and we got ready to go.
When we got to campus he took me to a small garden we have on campus and said we would wait for the photographer there. Suddenly my heart started to race-I could tell something was going to happen. We waited and then my close friend Sydney showed up, saying that she was passing through on her way to check in for the event and saw our car. Cody said our photographer was running late because of the weather and asked Sydney to take a few pictures of us. As she took photos, he suddenly looked at me and began to tell me how much he loved me and how much I meant to him.
Before I knew it, he was down on one knee asking me to marry him! I was so overwhelmed I don’t remember exactly what he said or I said, but I remember how happy I was! Afterwards we called our families to share the news and spent the night celebrating with my closest friends. We had our own special celebratory party right after we got engaged! He told me later that some planned things went wrong, but it was the perfect proposal to me.
