How We Met
Timothy (I call him Timmy or Ralph) and I met in high school. That’s right! We’re high school sweethearts :). Ralph and I were in a creative writing class together where we drove our teacher crazy (we were both the biggest dorks). That same semester, his sister suggested we go to the Sadie Hawkins dance together for the heck of it. I didn’t think much of it and just wanted a fun date to go with and have a good time with friends. It was during a slow dance and from then on that, I started falling for him. I clearly remember thinking, “Wow, he’s actually pretty cute” as we were slow dancing to Wanted by Hunter Hayes. As the night went on we continued to slow dance and sing out loud together.
In my previous relationships, I never understood when people gushed about a guy’s smile or eyes because I honestly never noticed those features with previous boyfriends, but it was different with Timmy. His eyes, the way, he looked at me, and the smiles he’d give me whenever I’d act like a complete dork made me tingle inside and that’s how I knew I was crushing and falling hard for him. We really liked each other, but neither of us admitted it for an entire year. We talked every day, all day, about anything and everything. After a year, I finally decided to tell his friend I liked him making him promise not to tell, but I knew exactly what I was doing. Someone had to make the first move! That’s how our four-year relationship began. :) It’s been four great years and honestly, it keeps getting better and better as we endeavor the good, the bad, and the ugly.
how they asked
Fast forward to September 1st, 2018…the best day EVER! It’s hard putting this day and all the feels into words. Sadie Shirts (one heck of a photographer) was in need of a couple to take a photo session at the Spirit of Boise Balloon Fest in Boise, Idaho. I volunteered and convinced Timmy to get up at 5 am for the festival (it’s my favorite time of the year) and the best photo session. During the photo session, Sadie was giving us so many fun prompts to do to capture some of the best moments and for one of them she had us stand back to back, close our eyes, and think of a reason why we loved each other.
So many things were running through my head and as soon as she said, “Okay, turn around.” I somewhat panicked because I wasn’t sure what to do once I turned around (haha) but as I turned around I saw Timmy kneeling on his knee. I couldn’t even talk! I was shocked, surprised, happy, excited, emotional, in awe, and I just didn’t even know what to do or say.
He took my hand and with tears in his eyes, told me he loved me and wanted to spend forever with me, and asked me to marry him. It was the most perfect moment with the sun rising, the colorful hot air balloons lifting into the air, Joe (the hilarious announcer) raving about the perfect morning, my best friend recording our moment, and Sadie capturing the most beautiful pictures. It was such a dream! Needless to say, I said “Yes!” to the love of my life.
