How We Met

He was on of the first people I met my first year of college in 2012. After my very first conversation with him (yes, that’s the truth!), I texted my best friend (jokingly, of course) that I had just met my husband. We had so much in common already – we both loved the ocean, scuba diving, sports, & dogs. He pursued me for the rest of about 9 months before I agreed to go on a date with him – he was heavily friend-zoned. We frequently hung out together, but I never wanted to date…. Until one night. We decided to have a night in and bought a bottle of wine, but we didn’t have a corkscrew. We spent all of 30 minutes trying different internet remedies for “how to open a wine bottle without a corkscrew” and unsurprisingly, none of them were successful; but we had so much fun and spent the whole time laughing until we cried. We spent the rest of the night talking and sharing stories. We chatted for so long, I thought it must have been 2:00 in the morning … I was wrong – it was 8:00 in the morning. We had been enjoying each other’s company so much that neither of us realized we talked through the night. That was the night we started our lives together.

how they asked

We had been officially dating for about 4 & 1/2 years by the time December 21st came around. That day, he said he wanted to decorate the gazebo in a million lights for Christmas and wanted my help. I should mention, by the way, that he had told me upwards of 500 times that he would NEVER do a holiday proposal, so at this point I was pretty oblivious. I helped him pick out the string lights and hang up sparkling ribbons in the backyard. We went outside to “take a picture” and when I least expected it, he knelt down and asked me to be his wife. He literally lights up my life and I cannot wait to marry him on the beach next year!
