How We Met
I was the Maid of Honor. Christopher was a close childhood friend of the groom’s. It was a setup and I will never forget the first time I saw him. At the rehearsal dinner on a yacht, I passed this handsome, tall man on the stairs that I immediately locked eyes with. Honestly, it was love at first sight. I didn’t even have to be introduced to him to know he was the man I was I about to be set up with! We spent the evening talking on the deck of the boat, laughing and completely enjoying each others company. We said goodnight and the next time I saw him was when I was walking down the aisle to get my best friend married. Again, we locked eyes during the ceremony and I couldn’t wait to get to the reception, where he was seated next to me at the head table. Long story short, we danced, kissed, and had the best night ever! Both of our parents were there as well, so we got approval from night one! Good thing neither of us brought a date to the wedding! After the wedding, we had to figure out logistics. I was living in NYC as a professional Broadway dancer and he was stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. I flew down to visit him the very next weekend, where he asked me to be his girlfriend and the rest is history.
how they asked
We did long distance for about two years. I was a professional dancer in NYC performing in Broadway National Tours and dancing on shows like SNL. I finally made the move from my life in the Big Apple to the beaches of Florida. I found myself performing at a theater in the area and teaching fitness classes. During the summer, I was working full time performing 8 shows a week and teaching countless classes every day. I did not have a single day off from May through September. It was wearing on me, and Chris immediately sent me a google invitation for a mandatory one-night getaway. I had no indication of where we were going, just a packing list. I was so anxious to just have a day off, I got in the car ready to be whisked away. An hour later we pulled up to the Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island and all the months of no days off faded to a distant memory. We spent the day at the pool eating fish tacos and canoodling in the lounge chairs.
I was given a strict dinner time to be ready for, and I let Chris pick out my dress before heading down to dinner. We decided on a quick sunset cocktail before what I thought was our dinner reservation. We took the drinks out on the veranda and I immediately got stung by a wasp! But I quickly shook off any feelings of pain to enjoy our quality time together. Chris suggested a walk on the beach before dinner, which is not unusual since we always do sweet sunset walks. We got to the water’s edge, and it was all a blur from there!
He told me sweet things about wanting me to be the Mother of his children and growing old together. Cue the waterworks from both sides! He got down on one knee and pulled out the ring of my dreams. I immediately sat on his knee because I didn’t know what else to do! Then from the distance, a photographer disguised as a tourist walks over to us. I am so thankful Chris thought to capture this moment because the images show exactly what we were feeling during the proposal. True bliss and overwhelming love. The date is set for July 20th, 2019 and we are getting married in my hometown on Cape Cod.
